Pro-Tour 1969 Chevelle LS3 Powered
Built and running project. You can finish with your own way….
Car started life as a V8 2 door Malibu California car. It was originally a vinyl top car. This has been a long on/off again project. Body was removed and media blasted. Frame was stripped and painted semi-gloss black. The only rust to speak of was along the seam off a torn vinyl top. Sitting in a field water pooled causing some rust holes (metal added)to top and damaging package tray area. The rear panel below window was cut out and replaced. The car still has both original quarter panels. There was prior body work on both quarters. My brother was the one whom did the body work and he felt they were suitable to use. The dent holes were welded up. I would say the driver quarter was a little rougher. I am trying to be as honest as I can as most would not even mention this. The car is primer however the body work is very close. The primer job was done by me so the pictures show some shadows that appear to be wavy but it was my spray gun issue. Below is the list of new parts. New Body and Trim Parts: Under carriage with raptor bed liner Front fenders SS Hood, with new chrome SS Grills Header Panel Front bumper valance Front core support T3 headlights Grill, and chrome pieces Headlight eye brows Chrome bumper Front turn signals Metal wheel wells *Not installed Rear Chrome bumper Rear Chrome tail panel upper and lower pieces *Not installed in pictures Tail light lenses Chrome taillight bezels Trunk lock, door locks, Windshield Windshield Trim (3 piece) Rear window trim Rear window *not installed, currently has lexan rear window which rattles like crazy Chrome side marker bezels *What is needed on body….it needs a new trunk. It has one mounted on it but no body work is done on it . Door handles are just driver quality. *The trunk and handles total about $350.00 Side glass is original except the rear driver qtr window. The side is not installed yet . I am working on that now. It will have new outer window felts installed. I don’t have all the chrome on drip rails. It also will need the chrome trim on hood and fender pieces. New Interior items Floor board tunnel is custom and raised for max space Front and rear door panels, Black in color Kirkey Road Race Seats with black seat covers. These are new but passenger black seat cover on side has slight rip. Crow 5 point harnesses with cam lock style dated Aug 2011 Roll cage constructed of .120 wall, 1-3/4” DOM built by a shop. Cage was built for max room. The cage extends up into the bracing which was trimmed so the bar could extend high up in the roof line. I have had this car at higher than freeway speeds and there is no distortion or flex. It remains sturdy. See picture to help give you a better idea. The catch ties into the frame, extends through to the trunk and also up to the engine compartment. I should mention that the Kirkey seats are fixed and placed for my height ~ 6-1”. That said the new holes could be drilled for shorter and or taller people. While the down bars are a pain to get in and out of you get the feel once you are in that you are protected. At my height with a helmet on I still have plenty of head room. The seats sit nice and low. OE style pads with Drive by wire pedal. Hurst shifter with 5 white 5 speed knob Dash pad, trimmed to fit down bars of cage Autometer 3-3/8” Tach and speedo with 2-1/16” Fuel, oil, volt and water gauges These are mounted in a Covan Classic dash which is cheap and bunk looking. Lokar park brake lever with Ironworks mounting pad Car has B-Quiet style sound insulation. Ididit tilt column Soft seal door seals *What is needed on inside: Roll cage will require better prep for paint will need carpet and custom headliner. Note the cage is very tight to roof so a reproduction head liner is not going to work. I was building this car to drive and was not worried about a show piece. I am sure a good interior shop could come up with something. Car has no heater or a/c, still needs windshield wiper motor. I have old one (would need rebuild) . I have the old wiper arms also. This is a two seater car only. So there is no rear seat period. New Drivetrain New (Bought in 2008) LS3 Crate Long block, has L76 intake. This is me just putting a feeler out there. I love the car and every-time a drive it I end up with a smile. I have approx 500-600 miles on it. Car starts up all the time. I have not had a dyno tune as I planned to do a cam swap. I am sure I have missed some details. I have a full catalog or receipts. Anybody who has gone this far into a car knows what it cost. If you do the math not counting the hours I have you will see the value. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...1Autocross.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...f/IMG_3680.jpg http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...f/IMG_3708.jpg |

Tom, that is a great deal for someone. It might not be the prettiest car out there right now, but it is very well built and purposeful, and with only a few tweaks it would be very fast, not that it isn't quick now.
I'm sad to see it leave your garage. If you don't mind my asking, why sell now? I know you said you'd entertain the idea of a trade. Matt |

I am not sure how serious I am about really selling it. It's a peak and valley thing with project cars for us common guy's. I am sure others toy with the idea of selling. I really like the car but it is hard with a young family to make these events like I had hoped. So it has something to do with trying to make reason with something that is $$$$ sitting in my garage. I also just bought a new commuter car two days ago. My fuel bill is high ~$1200.00 a month. I thought I would get me a little clean burning diesel car which I did but the only fun little one I found/bought was the little E90 TT 335d with Msport package. It was about 20K more than I had planned to spend  . I got a few nice offers but nothing I am going to jump on so I will keep adding to the Chevelle. I also realize some may think the price is steep for a none PT first gen camaro that is not finsihed. |
Tom, I also was bummed to see this for sale ad. Hopefully you find a way to keep it. It's been a long process for you and fun to watch. Impressive work for doing it all in your garage by yourself. And I am glad it's not a 1st gen Camaro. Those are getting lame.
The price seems very nice for everything someone would get. And it is drivable now and a buyer could finish the aesthetics as they saw fit. Best of luck with what plays out. |
