Rear End Suggestions
Looking into replacing the rear in my 69 Camaro and I was looking for some suggestions to get the most bang for the buck...without going broke. Any input on the best rear to get? I am running a 454, automatic with around 450 HP. No racing, I just wanted better traction that the stock 10 bolt non-posi unit.
So far, everything is looking over $2K plus shipping. Hopefully, I can get that number down. Thanks. |
Moser sells new 9" rear ends for very reasonable prices. You can buy a Moser Circle Track 9" complete rear with floating hubs and axles in your choice of width for $879. Add a freshly rebuilt center section off ebay for $600 and you have a bullet proof rear end.

BTW -- The rear end won't get you better traction.... Traction is way more complicated than that...
I'm assuming you have a single wheel drive and are planning on going to some kind of posi-traction unit - thus your traction comment. Ford 9" rear ends are readily available in huge price ranges -- brand new - or you can get one from a junk yard... |
Would the Moser circle track rear you mentioned be ok for a street car?
Thanks for your comments, Greg. Its less about about traction and more about getting rid of the weakest link in the equation. My tired non-posi 10 bolt just sticks out since I'm replacing everything else. I wanted to replace it, but not break the bank doing it. |

I wouldn't go with a full floater unless you're going to do some pretty serious racing. Check with Currie; good products, decent prices. Center section will cost you $1,500 new; I'd go with one off eBay, too.
