What is the best way to go about fixing this?

I have been searching for a replacement rail and came up empty so far and don't know if it is repairable by just cutting out the bad and replacing it with fresh steel.

Goal of the car is competitive in auto-x and some trackdays as well as mild street duties.

Looking for opinions

I had the same problem with my 73 but not nearly that bad. With your rust being that far forward if you want to use a factory style rail you can get them from places like Classic industries. Classic sells a "complete" frame rail now but they're expensive.

I'd definitely replace the entire rail. $180 from CI.

Correct, those rails only stretch from the rear to the top of the wheel well. I need from the top of the well and forward.

Here are the complete ones I was talking about but I guess they are only for 70-73. I would assume the only difference would be the back bumper mount section, but I don't know.
