69 mustang help
 

My borther inlaw just got a 69 fastback for his birthday. He has wanted this car for some time and in my opinion the best body style for the mustang. Any way he has no clue as to where to get great parts for this car like suspension and brakes. I am a chevy fan and to find parts for my camaro is a snap.

He wants to go with a pro-touring theme. 450hp+.

The budget on the whole build from ground up is $26,000 not including the car.
We are looking for a 03 Cobra engine but need to find a company that has the conversion for this to fit.

They have TONS of late model Mustang stuff from 85-2005. I was just down there last week and they have a 2003-04 Cobra complete, runs great - parting out. It may be on their site under "parting out" They sell the whole front suspension, engine, 6-speed, everything for the conversion. Check it out. They are located in Winder, GA just above Atlanta. Greg is very knowledgable and has helped me out on my Mustangs a few times.

MV Performance - They do tons of conversions. Mustang performance shop and they do a lot of mod motor swaps. If you get stuck or are looking for help they can help you out. They're just down the road from MPS.

As for the Cobra engine, you can get 'em at Ford Racing as an crate engine.

Thanks for the info. Do you know what size rim width you could fit in the front and back. We are looking into getting some 18s but dont know how wide we can go and with what offset.

Thanks... My wheels are 8" wide, but you can squeeze on 9" in the back. 8" is max for the front on 17". However, 18" you can have 9" in the front too I think.
Have a look at this 1970 Boss 302 It got custom backspacing, and it looks sick! It has 5.25 inch fackspace 18X9 in the front with 275/35/18s. The back is 6 inch backspace 18x10 with 295/35/18s. But I think that dude had to have Wilwood to custom make brake kits for him. He's over at www.boss302.com

I sooo regret on going for 17" when I bought wheels, so don't make the same mistake. Get 18"!

You can try www.dvsretorations.com for installing the cobra IRS in the rear. He is one of the best around for this type of install, very nice guy and most importantly honest. His website is down at times but you should call him. He sells all the proven bracketry and small parts needed for an individual to easily install themselves.

The watts rear suspension from TCP is being revised, so I would wait for their newly revised system for the rear instead of looking into the present one available. Here is a link that will let you know what is out there.

The latest out there for Mustangs is from http://www.rrs-online.com/ , they have some trick suspension packages for the front (no upper arms, mcpherson strut design) and a nice 3 link + torque arm kit for the rear.

You can easily go 8.5" on the front if you nail the backspacing, roll the fender lips, and have tubular control arms. On the rear, you can go up to 10" wide if you roll the fender lips. I am installing 255/18's on the front and 285/18's on the rear of my 70 Boss 302.

For the steering, if you are going to trade the ram pump for a rack, I would go TCP. I have had the best results with their rack.

I love the look of the 17s on your ride. More tire seems muscular to me. And you don't have to worry about potholes as much.

That's true, and when the car is moving, it looks dead on. However, standing still, I'd like a bit more rim, and less rubber. Don't get me wrong, I love the wheels and how they look, but for me 18" would really nail it. I think it has something to do with the rim design itself. The center plate inside the wheel looks to big, and would not be so dominant on a 18".
