Monoleaf
Simple question. I have seen many cars with late modle vette suspension, but all of them trash the mono leaf and move to coilovers. Why? What is the flaw with the mono-leaf? If the composite leaf is good enough for GM to put on the C6 vette what is the downside to running it on a G machine with vette suspension?

It is the length
Track width on a C5/C6 is way wider than what is being run on the stuff getting the control arms and knuckles. The spring would be too long to run under a 1st, 2 nd gen or just about any other car for that matter.
Ron is running the leaf in his mustang, but he used a stock C5 clip and wide bodied the car to make the track width fit under the fenders. You can find his build under Muttstang here or $5000 budget mustang at pro-touring.com. |
I looked into getting a composite traverse mounted mono-leaf.
Some of the issues I found were:
Not saying that it cannot be done and the way the 'vette does it is really the right way of doing a leaf spring (i.e. no axle wrap as the spring is used just as a spring, the spring is not to locate the axle, etc.) and I would assert a weight savings over even coil overs. Thoughts? |
