Brushed Nickel no longer available from Forgeline
 

Was half heartedly looking at wheels when I saw some with the brushed nickel finish and fell in love. Called Forgeline and he said they were no longer offering it as it was done out-of-house and they had too many QC problems.

I called Advanced Plating in Tennesee that did the Reactor brushed nickel wheels to see what they offered, but he said they rarely did it and didn't offer it to the public. They had done it for SEMA cars a few times but it ran like $1400 per wheel.

I think I will give up on this but I just wanted to lament that I couldn't buy this finish from Forgeline anymore and maybe just maybe if someone knew about another source to get it done.

Try Sherm's plating in Sacramento.

Can't say I blame them the set we ordered from them with that finish was late being delivered and the customer was very unhappy about it.

Nickel coating is part of the chroming process. I wonder if a one could have a chrome shop, nickel coat, polish, and give it to you to brush and clear coat. Just a thought...

We've done some test runs for a nickel plate and really liked the finish, but is costly and done by a outside vendor.

That looks awesome. I've always been a fan of nickel. Seems to have more depth and looks richer than plain old chrome. If you did the nickel over aluminum with a heavy grain or mill finish would it show through at all?

Yes, what ever condition of the aluminum is the Nickel will magnify that.

At the previous Forgeline price of ~$200 wheel I would have strongly considered it, but I would assume its going to be more than that, and I'd have to let go of the dream at that point. My car is a race/street hot rod, not a show car. But that sure does look nice.

Think it is as durable as other finishes ?

FL says their main issue wasn't cost but QC.

We've only ran a few samples and the QC is good. The nickel process is automated so the results are the same. The QC is more in the machining and handling on our end. Any imperfections in the machining or material will be magnified from the Nickel.

Durability is great, temp, UV and corrosion resistance are excellent. I believe Performance Friction Brakes uses a similar process on their calipers.

We would really like to offer this finish. Lead time is about (1) week more than normal for this finish.

New wheels weren't even on my radar until I saw the FL black Friday sale. Didn't pull the trigger but somehow new wheels are still on my new years list.
