Rob with a 63 Falcon sprint hardtop
Hey guys, i've been wanting to make an introduction thread for a while but have been so busy with everything that I could not get around to it until now.
I have a 63 Falcon sprint that has been in my family since it was bought new by my grandfather on a summer vacation in 1962. Story goes, gramps, grams and the kids were pulling a small airstream with there 61 falcon sedan with the inline six. Got hot going up a hill, lifted the head and got towed to the next ford dealer. Got the sedan fixed then traded it in on the shiny Sprint on the showroom. Car came with the little 260 v8 (something back then) and the ford-0-matic column shift. Car was the daily driver until early 80's when it was rear-ended. Car was fixed very well then stayed apart for a full restoration. My grandpa got old and tired and never got around to it. My dad bought it from him (his ex-wifes father, my moms dad) for a few K. I got all nostalgic and decided I wanted it from my dad. I had a 69 fastback mustang that he wanted and we made the deal (yes I had him sweeten it a bit) Back to the car.. My grandfather was a machinist for Aerojet by trade and everything he touched turned to mechanical gold. Ripping into this car, I keep finding little bits that he made. I can always tell right off that it was his part because it is engineered better than factory and much cleaner than it needed to be. Super neat stuff. My Grandpa is still alive so I get the pleasure of asking him about why he did what he did and how he made the parts. So I have all the parts for the car, including all the stainless trim. I'm re-wiring the car right now and have ran into my first situation. I have decided, in an attempt to make it as clean as possible to run the wires from the alternator, down the side of the block between the header and the block, back to where they connect to the voltage regulator (yes im still running one... budget) and I am worried about heat. Do you guys think it will be okay to run there under some type of heat shielding? Wiring is all heat rated and oils and solvent rated. If you're concerned about heat, I'd check your wires rating (should be marked on the wire cover every few inches), and if want to you could just get some that is unrated from what you have currently. Keep it tight to the block and DO NOT secure it with plastic zip ties. Again you can get stainless steel zip ties... Or use a properly sized Adel clamps. I'd try to run it on the pan rail. |
