Searching for tires.....

Ok so I've just ordered a set of fikse profil5's, and now I'm looking at some tires. The sizes are 315 30 18 and either 275 35 18, or 285 30 18. They are going on a third gen z28. This should see 50/50 street/track. I was looking at either toyo r888 or nitto nt01, but i'm not too sure if these are a good option for street use. Does anyone have any experience with either of these on the street? Absolutely no driving in the wet.

Those tires are fine on the street. Some may tell you otherwise, but plenty of guys have done it and are doing it. I've put about 8000 street miles on NT01s before, even in the rain.

Go for it.

Yeah, i've heard someone say they got about 30k on a set of r888's. How do you like the nittos? Do they still grip good after 8k?

Well I ran the NT01s a couple years ago on my daily driver Porsche, but I wasn't into any track stuff at the time, just street pulls, 60-130, etc.

Now that I am into tracking I just put on another set of NT01s on my Camaro but don't have enough miles on them. But yes I have heard of 12k-15k on a set of NT01s, but 30k sounds insane.

If you intend on driving in the rain stay away from the R888's and thats speaking from experience.

Keep in mind that most PT events and goodguys require a minimum of 200 treadwear. I run the falken rt615k and I really like them!

I agree I would stay away from the r888's if the car is driven frequently in wet conditions. I would vote for the Nittos...

I just ordered a set of NT05R's... but they are for my Camaro and never gonna see rain, etc.

Goodguys is 180 FYI, in case that matters to the OP.

My last set of r888's lasted about 3k. Front would've made it another 1500. Drove them in the rain once. Didn't have any issues. You can run exhibition in most events unless you want to go for optima.
