Hydraulic Throwout Bearing?
 

Well this is officially my first post here on Lateral-g and I was referred here by a member on TeamChevelle.Com

So I have had knee problems since my time in the military and lately they seem to be getting worse. I drive a 5 speed Acura daily and I am having pain when using the clutch in there (Cable). My 72 Chevelle (Mid restoration) has the 4 speed in it and I'm afraid I won't be able to (either now or later) put the force needed to push it in. I was curious how much difference in force is needed between a hydraulic throw out and the regular clutch?

Also how hard is it to change and whats an estimated cost to have someone do it (parts and labor)?

There are a few kits available to convert to hydraulic, McLeod comes to mind.

I've banged up my leg pretty bad in a motorcycle accident and in the process of developing a gear shift mounted hand-clutch lever utilising a hydroboost unit to reduce effort...don't know how bad your knee is but I'll let you know my developments if your interested.

My knee isn't that bad yet just have a lack of cartilage from what I have been told. I just have constant pain and sometime have issues going up stairs and am starting to have issues with the cable clutch on my import

Sounds like my set up is overkill for you then, but a hydraulic conversion will definately make things smoother. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than I will chime in with a m/cyl size suggestion.

Thanks for the offer and sorry about your leg. I was lucky enough to only have a broken collar bone from my motorcycle accident (stupid driver who changed lanes without looking and sideswiped me). Thank you helmets.

I will keep this in mine if I ever get to the point where I'm thinking about an automatic. I really refuse to drive an automatic (except for my truck) because I think manuals are starting to get lost to the younger generation. I'm 26 and hardly know anyone who can drive a manual these days.


I'm really hoping someone here has experience as to if these reduce pedal pressure or not as it seems I'm having a tough time getting an answer.
