Being fast in a Corvette is like getting rich from winning the lottery. (Insert Jack Off Emoticon):D

Thread must have been cleaned up? I dont see anything wrong. Danny won, by a lot, and it was his driving that got him there.

Well maybe he wouldn't autograph his own car, but that doesn't mean he isn't considering autographing someone else's car.

If anyone can dethrone, it's Stielow and this new build he has brewing.

Dave, you down to go to OUSCI this year dressed like devils? :willy: :willy:

When you write and publish a book many people want to read and buy, you are autograph worthy IMO.

And I am calling Stielow's 67 an early favorite. :unibrow:

Wonder how many cars will show up with hired finds behind the wheel next year?

only the car owner or builder (must have done 70% + of the mods to the car) can qualify. No pro drivers. Apparently Danny met the 70% qualification since it wasn't his car.

Quote:
10) The registered owner or builder of record must drive the vehicle during all events. Builder of record must be an identified individual that is not a professional driver. Builders of record must be identified and approved by OPTIMA before 10/15/2010. No competitive professional drivers will be allowed to compete for awards or the Ultimate Street Car title. As a rule of thumb, the builder of record must have had responsibility for at least 70% of all modifications to the vehicle. A painter, suspension tuner or motor builder is not considered to be a builder of record if they performed only those specific duties on the vehicle. A person who completed ALL of those duties may be considered the builder of record. If the owner of the vehicle is the person who contracted the build through many vendors then the owner is the builder of record. Typically the only person who qualifies as the builder of record is the owner or manager of a shop who modified the vehicle into its current condition from the condition in which it was purchased.

So your going to play that card. Just buying any car does not make you fast. You have to put the time in behind the wheel. Driving school would help 90% of the field at these events before one fancy ass part will do anything to anyone to make then actually know what they are doing.

If someone in this industry went out with a purpose built car for this event and knew how to drive they could really show guys what's up. Stielow and Kyle tucker and a few others are doing what they can with a 1st or 2nd Gen Camaro. But they have limited themselves to what can be done when DSE is doing what they can with parts they can sell to bolt on to every Camaro that was never designed to do what they are doing with them under the limitations a 69 Camaro is going to have. When you go buy a new Corvette, the technology difference between a Corvette and a covered wagon is about the same as a 69 Camaro and new Corvette. Sure they probably make more new parts for the that 69 Camaro to get it closer to the Vette. You can listen to all the marketing hype all day long, But the problem is your still trying to race that "1969" Camaro. The low end Vette comes stock with tires, a Camaro needs crazy special parts to fit. The sheetmetal over hang on the Camaro is 10 times more then a C6 Vette. The fuel tank position sucks in a Camaro. The aero package of a Vette is far more advanced then a Camaro. The unsprung weight of the aluminum control arms is far superior.

The 1969 Camaro will kill the vette everyday of the week in Visual appeal. Until some one does what lay Brian Hobaugh did with his and probably go further, Then with a top notch driver with a tested and tuned car will you ever see it. From what I know Brian is an autocross guy and more points are put on the road course at the Optima deal. Somebody needs to completely rethink a Camaro, and really learn how to drive. Then it will happen.

But at what point will it not be a "STREET CAR"?

Vegas69 03-02-2012 12:45 PM

It was a jab back at the competition. Naturally, a modern Z06 Vette gives me a huge advantage over my Camaro before driving skill comes into play. There is no disputing that. I couldn't do it in a Z06 so I'm not taking anythign away from the winner. I'm simply saying the cards are stacked in one direction.
