Need new rims, Forgelines or Rushforths, why do guys run 18 front, 19,20 rear
Im looking for some new rims on this Mach 1 i just got and it already has 18X8.5 and 18X10 Foose which i like but want to really give it a modern Pro tour look.
the car has Ridetech air so even when slammed the rims on this car look small. Then when I look at other cars with 18's they look perfectly balanced especially Camaros, but on the Mustangs its deceptive from viewing photos which size works best. I was considering doing 19X10 rear and 18X8.5 fronts or doing 19 all the way around. Theoretically having different overall sizes in height screws up the cars balance. That is why I am questions this different fitments especially having 20 in the rear and 18 in the front. I do understand the Modern Vettes have 18/19 rims but their overall height is the same. I kinda get why guys do the larger rears for rake but that also can be done with suspension settings. I honestly think having the same diameter all around makes the most sense. I just want to hear some feedback on why some of you guys choose the sizes your running. |

If you run a taller tire in the rear the staggered wheel size can maintain the look of the tires sidewalls being the same height. The rubber band on the wheel will be the same height. |
I personally think a 19 and 18 combo looks the best on these cars, This is one we did a few years back....

Steve that set up looks sweet, what rims are those and the widths and tire sizes used? is the rear tubed?
|
Thanks, the wheels are budnik cannons 19x10 and 18x9 With 295/35/19 and 255/40/18. The rear tubs are stock with the rearend narrowed 2" each side.

Well i took a Porsche PS2 tire, 295/35/19 and stuffed it under my car in the rear and it does fit but the custom rims will need to be SPOT on perfect to not hit anything. I measured everything up.
I like the 18 tire sidewall look but coming from the custom modern car scene one has to consider new modern cars have much rounder and larger wheel openings where all Mustangs and Camaros of yesteryear do not. based off photos some 18 rims look awesome on the 69-70 Stangs and some look horrible, 19 will look great for visual impact no doubt but the rubber band sidewall isnt what i want for a 43 year old car, i already have that on my Porsche and CTS-V if i keep 18 i can keep my current tires and when the rears burn up go a bit wider on the rubber, if i go 19 it will add $1500 for more rubber i just want to make best choice first time around considering the cost of custom wheels for these cars. |

That car Steve did above is about as perfect as you can get. I've seen it in person several times. |
Flash68 i agree Steve did an awesome job on that Stang, i gotta give him a ring to ask more details on the offsets and fitment. My car doesnt have a narrowed rear but that just means less lip on the outers which is fine by me, the fronts have me wondering how he got such a huge front lip.
Considering East Bay and Ring Bros Dragon are both some of my favorites and they both use a 19 rear 18 front that might make sense to go in that direction. |
FWIW I wanted a taller sidewall too and went with a 295/40/18 out back with a 255/45/18 up front on my 'bird.

I am running 18 in front and 19 in back..I am glad I did..
18 in the back would be too small. And thanks to Steve at east bay Muscle cars and Jason at Rushforth for setting me straight and helping me buy right the first time.. |
