Gun and Fire Safes
We are looking at building a new house, so I thought it would be a good time to have a gun/fire safe built into a wall.
Does anyone have pics of how they built in there safe (if you dont mind sharing). Also, which safes offer the best bang for the buck. I am thinking of a budget of around $2000 or less. |
The problem is your budget isn't going to do more than buy the door, not build the room. Below is a company that builds doors
http://www.sportsmansteelsafes.com/defender.htm If you are just talking about building in a complete safe, you are still going to have a budget problem. For your budget, your best bet is to buy the best safe you can get, and just add a suitably placed closet in the house plans to put it in. |
I was looking to not build a "safe room", I was going to just recess a safe into the wall.
Also, the budget can be adjusted somewhat. |
I would still just add an appropriate size closet to put it in instead of building it into a wall. Several reasons, you can take it with you if you ever move, it will be completely hidden from sight, and it provides a storage space for other stuff that accumulates related to the stuff in the safe, like holsters.

+1 on the closet with stand-alone safe. Make the closet big enough for gun cases and other incidentals that don't need to be locked down in the safe. I have mine on the second floor and installed a keyed lock on the closet door. 6' wide x 5' deep depending on the safe door size would be good starting point.
