RideTech Spindles Question

Can the ride tech tall spindles be used with GW control arms and a chicane kit on a 1st gen camaro? Or do they require the ridetech control arms?

Should work fine.

Thanks for the info. I would like to go with the ATS spindle, its just out of my current budget and I already have Wilwood brakes that will fit the Ridetech spindle.

pull the trigger.
thanks for wanting the best.

I'm interested in the Ridetech tall drop spindles myself. Do they have issues with the tie rods hitting the rim on wider wheels? What size wheels can you run? In the future, I'd like either 17x8 or 18x8 wheels, with 245/40 tires.

Thanks,

Stering arm interference will not be an issue with an A body if you are using a 17" rim or larger. [you might be OK with smaleer, but I have not checked that to be sure].
With the F body steering arm you will be limited to about a 17x8 wheel with a 5" backspace. With our tru turn system you can use up to an 18x10 wheel with a 5.75 backspace. You can also use SOME 17" wheels. I say SOME, because some of the less expensive cast offshore 17" wheels have too small of inside diameter to clear the tru turn steering arm.

Thanks for the info Bret. I have a 68 Camaro and I'm definitely going to purchase US made wheels. So if some 17x8 wheels fit, then why wouldn't 18x8 wheels work?

What might interfere with an even larger wheel?

Thanks again,
Mike

I have 17x8 wheels with 4.5" backspacing and 245 45 17 tires and they fit with the z28 short arms and Baer tracker kit. When I have more budget I plan on upgrading to the true turn. The spindles are a very nice piece.

SIDE SHOT OF THE BIRD

I want your spindles for my 68 Bird. Right now I have GW uppers, GW springs and stock lowers with OEM discs. I need to drop it about 2-2.5". I want to take advantage of the better geometry and the 2". The wheels I want don't come in 17x8" only 17x9" with 5" backspace. They are cast.

Would your spindles give any more clearance inside?
Don't see any issues with GW springs and uppers with stock lowers?
Do your spindles push the wheel out or in?

thanks

IF you use the RideTech spindles with your oem F body steering arms you will still be limited to an 8" wheel with about a shallow backspace, about 4.5" if I remember correctly. With this combination the diameter of the wheel is not an issue because the steering arm won't fit inside the bell of the wheel anyhow.

IF you use the complete Tru Turn system [which includes the RideTech spindle and the RideTech steering arm along with the rest of the system] you can use up to a 10" wide wheel with up to a 5.75 backspace...IF you an 18" diameter wheel...OR a 17" billet wheel. MOST cast 17" wheels do not have enough inside diameter to clear the Tru Turn steering arm. I say most becasue we have not tried every wheel made yet. So far, in a 17" wheel diameter, the billet wheels we have tried have cleared fine, the cast wheels have not. Clearance is not an issue with an 18" wheel, billet or cast.

Having said all that I am quite sure that someone somewhere makes a 17" billet wheel that will not fit, and a 17" cast wheel that will :)

If you are going to use another brand of control arm, or an oem control arm, just be sure the run the suspension through its travel to check for ball joint bind and any other clearance issues.

The RideTech spindle does NOT move the wheel mount hub out any, BUT some brake kits do that. Ask your brake manufacturer. From experience I know the Baer systems duplicate the mount position of the factory DISC brake system, but be aware that the oem disc brake hub [and the Baer hub] is about 1" wider than the oem drum system. [That little tidbit cost me a set of billet wheels]
