firewall help!
1 Attachment(s)
I am looking for some suggestions/advice to repair my firewall. I purchased the car with a large square cut in the firewall. I was told by the previous owner that the hole was cut to clear a big cap distributor :_paranoid of course he doesn't have the piece that was cut out and the plate that I purchased to smooth the firewall doesn't cover that area.
Does anyone sell patch panels for the firewall, or would I need to replace the whole thing? Thanks in advance for any feedback |
yikes, your missing your cowl too....do the whole thing

Ha! That's nothing... Here's what I started with! :)
http://carbuff.homeip.net/images/body/nofirewall.jpg http://carbuff.homeip.net/images/body/nofirewall2.jpg I ended up with a donor body shell that was worthless in other areas, and I cut out the cowl and firewall panel that I needed. It wasn't an 'easy' fix, but the cowl is just spot welded and seam sealer-ed in place. Just takes some time/patience... |
ok, bryan wins.... LOL

They make all the pieces you you need to fix it. I think you can even buy it already smoothed? If you have a LKQ/Keystone in your area they will be able to get you what you need. They bought Goodmark about a year ago. This way you don't have to pay shipping!

As already mentioned, you need two pieces- the firewall itself and the cowl assembly. They're each going to run you right about $300. You'll probably mangle the outer cowl saddlebags in the process of taking it all apart, which will run you another $100 each.
You could try to cobble together some patches, but unless you're pretty good with sheetmetal work, it's likely to turn into a real mess. I just got my new firewall installed this weekend, and it looks great- it's nice to have some clean metal on the car finally. |
