Camaro crashes in street race.
|
Wow, had his kid in the car. Obviously no seat belt. Let somebody he didn't know "pressure" him into it. Was the guy 44 or 15?
|
I am sure he had no intention of racing... my arse!
|
He had his kid along to the event but not in the car for the race...thank God.
The young fella won a drawing for a remote control Bumblebee Transformer Camaro we offered up at a show once so as it turns out I have met the individuals at an event in 2011. |
Obviously no cage in that car. Probably had stock seat belts. What a shame. Thank God he was smart enough to have his kid watch instead of ride along but I can't imagine how traumatic it would be to see your dad wreck a car in such spectacular fashion.
The other car pulled the wheels off the line, not your average street racer. |
I went back and looked at some past event pictures and it does have at least a 4 point cage in 2011. It would be interesting to get a closer look post crash to see if the cage failed, if it had installation issues etc...
I think I made out race seats too, but the glare was such I couldn't tell. They aren't stock because they are highback. Kinda looked like those Jaz racing seats you see. I think the car was capable of passing tech for drag racing as it had slicks on it in 2011 too. So it must have had adequate belts but that doesn't help when you aren't wearing them.:( |
I don't think he fastened the seat belt and his injuries are from bouncing around in the car and partially or completely being ejected. There are several versions of the story floating around, but no seat belt is a common rumor locally.
It is also rumored that it was the first time he made a nitrous pass in that car. Really sad chain of events. Randy |
You might want to post this video in the street cars with rollcages thread.
Granted you can't plan for Stupid, but even if he had a seat belt on it must not have been very tight or properly attached. So if you follow the story, He didn't want to race a wheel standing g-body and put on his seat belt only half way or not at all in a car with slicks and nitrous. But he was "pressured' into racing, He did not want to. I think the only reason he did not want to race was because he knew the competitor was going to beat him. And he was a rookie, you can tell by how crooked his wheels were on the launch. The truly fast guys go to the race track for just this reason. What is that car would have spun the other way? Would have gotten 2 cars. |
