gm outsourcing parts
 

I went to my local chevy dealership ( george chevrolet ) order a slave cylinder for 2001 camaro . after removing old one I notice it was completely different so I tried to return it next day ( intact , never installed ) the parts guy steve refuse to get my money back even thought I had receipt in hand. allegedly because it was not in a box . I explained to him and he recalled he kept box day before but still would not accept it, even though it was just a plain brown box no Pn , logo.. F it
well I went home installed it. figured gm sold it it should be good. few days later during normal use it busted, well after towing charges and more fun removing t56 on my drive way again..upon removal I saw that center part of throw out baring popped through center section of pressure plate.
I than went to my local O'reilley's auto parts and to my surprise , they're part ( slave cylinder ) is the same one as gm , skf made in argentina only difference is the price $60.00 @ O'reilley's $180.00 at dealership.
WTF ??
skf contact point of throw out baring to teeth of the pressure plate is stamp shaped metal in comparison with OG which was a two piece part , not stamped

yeah it won't make no difference to him but I do plan on taking the time some day and make a formal complaint.
I just can't believe its the same part being sold at the auto parts for less than half the $

Sounds fishy, like the parts dude was trying to move bad inventory or something. I would be calling the dealership again and moving that up the chain of command.

Frank, I would go back to the dealer and talk with the service director and he dose not help then I would go to the GM of the dealer then the owner. If they don't want to help call the regional director for the dealer. It does take some time but in the end it hurts the parts guy the most because a complaint against his department doesn't look good when he goes to get another job with another GM dealer!

Also just a thought here but have you gone to another dealer to see if they are selling the same part? Maybe this guy Steve took that part back on return and didn't notice it wasn't a GM part until after and that is why he sold it to you with out the box and now won't take it back?? Just a thought?

What you experienced is total BS.
I worked at a Chevy dealership in the 80's and found the best way for that type of complaint is to registar a complaint with the GM parts/service rep for that region, if you complain to the guys boss or the owner of the franchise, they will most likely do nothing as that who probably trained him...

its like complaining at Home Depot it gets you no where. they just leave you in the middle of the aisle while they find some one that works in that department:mad:

The sweaky wheel , gets the grease.

I would go up the chain of command. Possibly file a formal complaint.

Some people just hate their jobs, and they take it out on customers..Maybe this parts guy needs to be jobless..

could have been on national back order with gm so they sent the driver out to o'riellies to keep you happy.

Isn't SKF a GM contract?

well they gave me another slave cylinder from dealership and just to get it out of my mind I went and bought from o'reillys and side by side they are exactly the same. part number and all the only difference is what I think is the manufacturing date. can some one out there. tell me where I can find a real ac delco slave cylinder.
