Help! I have the opportunity to buy a
1970 Buick GS 455 numbers matching convertible. Car is an original AZ car, fully restored, no replacement panels, It only lacks a very few details to be a 100 point car. The guy is asking 50K, I could buy it for 48K. 71k on the odo. Car is butternut yellow with black top and interior. Any opinions? It leaves for a consignment dealer tomorrow at noon (thursday 2/9/06)

I would say that is all the money. Probably a good investment piece if you do not mind holding it for a while, but I would not look for a quick return. Of course, you may want to check some GS or Buick sites. Like everything right now, they may have skyrocketed in the last several months.
Auto or 4sp? |
If its a 4 speed and super nice (and I mean super) its a good buy. Should be a Stage One for that price. Automatic, however, I might keep on looking.
Maybe. :D I really like the Chevelle wanna be's. I say that with the utmost respect. I love the Goats and GS's and 442's. Remember, when the top goes down, the price goes up. You could always clone it into a GSX convertible. |
Buick
It is an auto, and is not anything special (stage 1 etc) It is SUPER nice. I am not looking for a quick return. the only problem is that I am not keen on 100 point cars. In other words, I would be afraid to drive the thing! The exhaust is not stock, but is done nice with the correct (orginal) manifolds with duals and flow masters. It needs a trim screw here and a light gasket there, but all in all a beautiful car.
Thanks for the advice! I would love more! I love that "the top goes down, the price goes up!" Darren |
Probably more like $35K to $40k, maybe Chill will chime in later. He probably has his fingers on the pulse of this type car better than I do anyway.

Darren I don't care what kind of car it is. 100 point or some of the 35-45 pointers I drive (LOL). They all need lots of smokey burnouts done with em. Zora did burn outs in his Corvettes, Carroll does smokies in his Cobras. I never take out my 69 Z with out a nice tire burner. Its why they are called muscle cars. Just my Opine (as my grandpa used to say) |
Stage 1 cars are at least 50% more than a GS hardtop car. It sounds a bit high but it still could be worth it since it's a vert. I don't know much about vert values.

Smokey B's
I agree Jim! My point is, the car looks showroom new. I have a personal issue with driving a car that nice and that clean because I would not take the time to clean it back up! I am going to pass. It just doesn't feel right. I might kick myself later at next years B-J auction! Oh well. I will post links to the pics when it winds up at the consignment dealer tomorrow.
