69 Camaro fuel pump mounting location?
Hey everyone,
I have a 69 Camaro with a carbureted zz502 and wondering where most of the group with the first gen F-bodys is mounting their electric external fuel pumps? (Sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn’t find any previous discussions on it.) Currently I have my fuel pump located pretty close to the rear axle attached to the bottom of the trunk pan in front of the fuel tank. Right now I am running an external pump “Edelbrock 1792”. I seem to be getting a lot of bad primes from the pump. One minute it is running a solid 7psi and then it can’t get over 2-3psi. Seems like vapor lock. Just wondering if it might be my mounting location hurting the fuel prime since I can’t really find a location lower than the tank to mount it. Thanks for any tips or suggestions. -Nick |
The one in my 68 Camaro is mounted up in front of the gas tank . I never had any issues with it being there.

Thanks for the info! It helps a lot. I think my next move is to connect to fuel filter and pump inline to each other as a single piece. Right now I have a braided hose separating them. Looking at a lot of pics it seems that a lot of people are connecting them together as a single unit. Thanks for the reply.

I have not seen pumps near the tank be an issue. The mounting of the pump to filter that close is more for mounting ease than need. I always seperate mine for easy of maintenance and I use braided lines. Everyone says rubber are better for absorbing the variation in pressure, which makes sense, but I run branded everywhere without noticeable diffrenecies. But I am not trying to get a .001 faster or better!
