Shipping other than UPS or FED-X!
I'm trying to ship my Anvil tubs to Doug in Irvine ,CA from Chicago the box is 120X70X50 weighs 24 pounds. UPS and FED-X want about $230.00 to ship thats friggin crazy!! Does anyone have any other shippers they use that are a little more reasonable??

I remember a discussion with Albert about his shipping Carbon Fiber parts and he was blown away at the quotes he was getting... The problem is - that for us - we think of this as being LIGHT so shouldn't cost much... but it's the SPACE these parts take up that's the problem.
Maybe the US Mail (just before they go broke - oh wait! They already are! :willy: ) could stuff it in his mailbox... :D In all seriousness -- DHL seems to have pretty decent rates. |
I know this ounds crazy but Greyhound bus lines ship parts as well. Also try some freight lines such as ConWay and Overnite Etc.

Call Anvil, they should know better than anybody. It is a volume game as Greg mention.

yeah, once they went with dimensional pricing a few years ago it screwed everything up. The last large items I shipped were sent Greyhound, much cheaper than UPS or FedEx. The only problem is they do not deliver to your doorstep, so the recipient will have to go to the bus station to pick them up.

Mario, How were they shipped to you? As mentioned Greyhound is usually good on pricing.

If you know someone that ships alot of freight that would have a good discount, you should be able to beat that price by quite a bit.

Greyhound was by far the cheapest option. You just have to make sure that the box will fit. The inner fenders probably would, but a hood was too wide. It has to fit in the luggage area under the bus. Package them up real well, box them, and take them to the drop off location. Actually, box them and call Greyhound to make sure the boxes will fit. You need all 3 dimensions and the weight. That's your best bet that I know of. Good luck! |
