SBC Gen 1 headers
I may need a set of headers in the near future. From my research it appears Dynatech's are the best fit, quality, and value for ceramic coated headers.
Should I be considering others? Is the collector with ball & socket flange desirable? My car has a 350, stock subframe, Saginaw fat steering box, manual, no a/c, AFR heads, 2.5" exhaust. http://sieg.smugmug.com/Cars/69-Cama...MAG1984-XL.jpg Existing header is relieved at the steering box to gain 1/16" of clearance which works due to solid motor mounts. I like the Hooker Super Comp's. With your set up you could probably get away with 1 5/8" primaries but I would get the 1 3/4".

Dougs D368 headers fit my car really well, clearing the pitman arm and power steering box and werent too expensive. That's the 1-3/4 part number...the 1-5/8 header may fit even better. :cheers:

Hooker Super Comps really aren't the best fitting and they hang lower than most other headers it seems. Gaetano -- whatchu talkin bout Willis? :lol:
I know Mike P (mdprovee) just switched from Super Comps to Dynatechs on his 1st gen due to clearance issues with the Tru Turn install and he gained the needed clearance there FWIW. |
If there was a smiley shruggin' his shoulder's I'd use it. What can I say, for the money I like them ;)

https://lateral-g.net/forums/show...=35882&page=10 ...and read through my ongoing saga of fitment issues with Dynatech headers. I can show you more reference that they are incorrectly built. They should have been built with another 1/4" clearance at the #5 primary tube. The company claims that 18" from head to head is the correct measurement for the stock motor. My research and own findings prove the actual measurement is 18 1/4" for a stock motor. Motors with aftermarket heads, such as mine, yield even more clearance issues. As of right now, the company has expressed no interest in fixing or even admitting they have a problem with their headers. They also will not allow me to speak with the engineer there again that built the headers originally. |
What model number are headers you have?
Fitment issues like that are no fun, regretefully I'm finding these old cars vary quite a bit dimensionally. I'm surprised no manufacturer hasn't came out with a model that utilizes oval or rectangular tubes in that area. |
I have the 310 part # headers, which are supposed to fit the DSE steering box. You may not have any fit issues with them in your application though. They are an extremely nice and heavy duty header, they just don't fit as advertised in my application.
