Which engine for 600Bhp plus

From day one, I have been looking at the LS9 for my project because I want reliable power, lightweight, good gas mileage and refined for road use (10% track, 90% road)

I want a minimum 600hp.

The only thing I dont like about the LS9 is its not very pretty just a big plastic covered lump. I am building a show car after all.. and LS7 with fast intake manifolds and nice headers look so much nicer under the hood.

Am I being blinkered? Should I be considering other motors? that will give me what I want?

What do people suggest? Can anything be done to make the LS9 look nicer?

Share your thoughts guys and lots of pictures :)

LS7 slightly worked over.. i love mine and its 600 all day erry day.

or a really worked LS3 or L92..

any of those can get you 6.

A Magnacharger, Whipple, or Kenne Brown blower on top of an LS2/3 will look fantastic when you open the hood and meet your goals with ease. You can also use an LS1/6 but you'll have more torque with the larger displacement engines. If budget is an issue, going either of these routes should prove cheaper than an LS7/9 combo and still meet your goals.

A Pro-charger added to the above engines will also easily meet these goals. However, they do not produce torque in the same manner. For me, there's too much lag, especially on the street.

I like the look of an LSX with a Magnuson on top. It looks a lot better than an LSA or LS9. I am in agreement that a supercharged LS2 or LS3 would easily meet your HP goal and should prove to be reliable on the street.

I don't think my LS3 is "really worked" and it made just shy of 600hp. Roughly 590 on a 110* day. (engine dyno)

If you want 600+ horsepower, good gas mileage is all relative. My vote is for a blown LS3, an LS7, or a 454 LSX. Once you get done adding all of the weight of the supercharger and intercooler, I imagine it is fairly close to the added weight of an iron block.

We do both and all the LS engines are great, if you need help with this give me a call 480-748-2000 and I will go over all the pros and cons with you. I can also do a engine/tanny package for you at a killer deal. I buy dirrect from GM so I have lots of insight here and have been doing the LS stuff for years.

My favorite engine by far is the LS-9 as the TQ is insane and nothing really compairs to it. A built LS-3 is awesome as well but everyone has those. If you dont care that is the way to go. You can make them all look sick

Give me a call and I can help you out even if you dont want to buy from me I can help you out with some of the builds we have done.

Thanks for the input guys..

after chris' input on the torque, I think I need to stick with the LS9!
