Project cars???
 

Wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were on project car and what people ask for them.

First I know it all depends on what condition it is in and what parts it has, I get all that. But what I'm looking for is what have some of you paided for you cars to start with?? Not looking for exact number just around what you paided and what condition, parts, and such came with it?

I have been looking at a couple of cars with a friend of mine (he's looking for a project) and it seems to be all over the place as far as cost for what they have.

We looked at a 68 Camaro the car was advertised correctly it needed everything he wasn't kidding, came with no parts and he wanted 3K for it :wow:

He wants me to sell him my Camaro (which I may :_paranoid ) but I have a lot into mine and lots of parts.

So post up your thought and what you've seen or looked at or bought!

There's so many variables it's hard pinpoint value.

Does the seller "want to" or "have to" sell?

Does the seller have time to sell or are they desperate?

Is the seller emotionally attached or detatched?

Sellers time invested in the car.

Money invested in the car and how well was that money leveraged?

Economic and market conditions.

Overall condition of car and the parts.

Given the economy I would consider it a buyers market.

Sig, not really looking for a specific value of a car just what others have seen out there or bought them selves? Believe me I know the variable involved in pricing. Just want to see what other have seen with project cars. :thumbsup:

I paid $11,500 for my 69 X11 camaro.

-Complete Stainless Steel hardware to install every nut and bolt on this car :yes: :cheers:
-Complete weather stripping kit
-Complete OER repo Lighting kit
-Complete Front Subframe with suspension Sold! 450.00

Things That I have already replaced :willy:

-New Tail Panel
-New 1 piece Floor
-New Firewall
-New Dash

I got lucky and paid $1800 for my Chevelle back in 2003. I say lucky because it was a 23 year old, spoiled kid whose mom bought him a new Nissan Maxima and he didn't realize what he had. That same car could have sold for $5000 easily in my opinion. He looked at the Chevelle as "an old car he'd had since high school and no longer running." So, he let it sit up for about a year and assumed it wouldn't even run anymore. All it was, the battery had run down and the gas went bad in it. :lol: I took the battery to Auto Zone to get charged up, put some fresh gas in the tank, never dumped the old gas since I just wanted to see if it would start. It fired right up. Body wise, the car was near perfect, every panel on the car is original. Didn't have to replace nothing...no floors, trunk, etc. The only thing was it had a vinyl top and when I took it off, the roof had alot of rust. But, I had small patch panels made for that and along the quarter panels were the molding was and it was all she wrote. Also replaced a few patches in the trunk. Oh, and by the way, the 23 year old kid was the second owner as he bought it from the original owner. I'm the third owner. :D :D

^ Marcus you did get lucky but it shows the value of patience and being in the right place, right time. I do think the market is a little different now.

I bought and sold a fairly solid 68 Camaro roller in he 8k range a couple of years ago. Toe board repair was the only fix the new owner did along w body and paint. It's now in the projects section over at PT.

Paid 12K for a rolling shell with front sheet metal and had all rust repairs previously made. Car also came with misc. interior repop parts, old glass, etc. Was it the best deal on earth? Probably not, but it was right for me. I wanted to make sure I wasn't going to have to pay to have panels installed, or have to go backwards at any point, i.e. repainting a car, because that gets expensive, quickly. It was also nice not having to track down door handles and latch mechanisms, and all of those little pieces.

Just buy my 62 Bubbletop project at Ironworks and finish it... The body is all in steel and you can see EXACTLY what you're going to get! :D
