Places to see and things to do in Arizona, jan

Well I just booked tickets to Az in jan from Australia to visit my parents, first time 8 years that I've gone back to see them. They are driving down from northerN BC for the winter, so the kids and I going to meet them in Pheonix then go to Yuma.

I know the Barrett auction is on the week of jan 13-20 and would like to see the last couple of days, are there any other events , maybe pro touring around that time and area. Going for 2 weeks and then have to head back to oz.

Not to my knowledge....just the Pavillions on saturday nights. Awesome cruise night with cars of all kinds! Hwy 101 and Indian Bend Rd.

I can't speak much for the Phoenix area because when I'm in Phoenix it's always been for the Barrett-Jackson event. However, my in-laws have lived in Tucson for 13 years now and for Tucson I would recommend the Pima Air and Space Museum, Desert Museum, Tombstone is pretty cool (about 1.5 hr drive south of Tucson), and I would recommend Pinnacle Peak for a family dinner in Tucson. Pinnacle Peak has a small old western town right there also with an old western show and a kids train. Have a good trip!

Its a drive but if you have the time take a trip to the Grand Canyon. Its breath taking the first time you see it in person.

Totally agree with Vince! I passed thru there (up US 89) several trips before FINALLY going to see the Grand Canyon... and it's just way more than you expected.

I remember my jaw dropping at first rounding a bend and seeing Mount Rushmore. Has nothing to do with Arizona - just saying that this stuff is world famous for a reason... it's pretty impressive. GC is not just your ordinary canyon!

NOTHING else in Arizona comes close to experiencing the Grand Canyon. Simply spectacular. It's a must see.

I'd also take the time to hike down to the bottom and back if you and your group are physically able.

Thanks for the replies, the Grand Canyon is definitely on the list. I don't to that part of the for;d very often so have to make it count.

The part of the trip I'm looking forward to is having my son and my dad at any kind of car event, all the generations in one spot.

I didn't see the dates you would be going there. Jan could be very cold at the top. Sometimes the park is closed, too. So check in advance.

Go see Sliderock State Park near Sedona. The views are breathtaking, however the water in Januray will be downright bone chilling.

Sedona is not far. Prescott is beautiful and Jerome is a cool old mining town in the mountains.
