FSAE alumni?
 

I was reading through Mark's build thread for the new 67 project. There was a bit about Formula SAE and he mentioned a few other Almuni from the program. I'd be interested to see how many people on this board have FSAE experiance and from what schools? I'll play first.

I was on the Va Tech team from 86-90 and did the engine development work by Fuel injecting a 600 cc Ninja motor. Our car ended up winning the national championship in 1991. The four main players on our team went on to have motorsports careers including myself. Two were IRL cheif engineers, and later went to NASCAR, I was on a NASCAR team as well as a pit crew guy, and the forth is with a Continential tire cup team currently. Next year my son will transfer to VT and hopefully will be on the team as well. :cheers:

When I got involved in SAE the Formula team was pretty full, but the Baja team needed more members so I went that route. I was on the suspension design team. We had a great time. Quite a few of the guys on our team ended up in the motorsports/ATV/Auto industry. I had a great time building the car and hanging out with a great group of people.

I was at Purdue from 98-02.

Did some work on the team late in my college career but being I was in Civil, I couldn't do both time wise w/ my senior project. Should have started earlier.
Alabama 99-04 . on team during 02 and parts of 04.

I was on the Texas (UT) team in '98, I believe. We were a bit of a mess and plagued with breakage but it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot from the group. I was just a freshman in college so didn't have a lot of engineering knowledge but I was the guy with common sense to make sure the threory could be implemented in the real world. We ran a 600cc F4I engine. Best part besides not sleeping for ~4 days was getting to go into the GM workshop with the car to fix it. I still remember being facinated by the shear number of tools and hardware available....

I never made it to an automotive career becuase I played too much and could not get my ME degree but I can't complain about where I am today.

I was involved with mini baja at UCSB from 2003-2007. We didn't really have FSAE. I now design transaxles for full size baja race cars.

Cool -- a couple of guys from our team are at Cummins and one is at Polaris.

I went a different route with my career - - - - I'm more of an IE in my current role.

Good replies, I knew that a community like this should have a few college motor heads too! I know there must be more on here. For the record, I'm no longer in motorsports, I'm a Engineer for GE Power and Water.
