Questions about slave cylinders
I have come to a point where I have to replace my leaking slave cylinder in my 67 Nova. While not a Lateral G friendly car (more Yellow Bullet), many of you have more experience with this than I do.
My Nova has a 422" SBC with a TKO600 along with the slave I recieved in the kit from Kiesler about 6 years ago. Last year, I replaced the master with the new unit from American Powetrain to improve the pedal geometry. After a summer of driving, the minor leak the slave had increased. I never was that satisfied with the kit due to the fact the bellhousing had to be installed before installing the slave, thus making the trans install a real PITA. To make matters worse, the bellhousing is large enough that prohibits R&R'ing the trans in the car. End result...................the motor and trans needs to come out again. The question are these................. Is there a slave that is generally better than the rest? Is there the a better way than I am aware of? Is the life of my slave considered to be "normal"? Initally, I was NOT satisfied with the Kiesler kit. I did not like the clutch master kit, the geometry, and what I was led to believe was an installation kit. Overall, poorly represented and engineered. I am tolerating the transmission and would change it if money were not a little tight. (This is a 600hp car that I shift @ 6700rpm) I have noticed for T56 transmissions there is an external slave that mounts to the bellhousing. That IMO would be ideal. I did see this but not sure if I have the room to tilt the transmission. http://lakewoodindustries.com/drivet...ee-muncie.html If there is something I left out, please do ask! This is a car I am rather fond of and want this to be RIGHT after going through all of this work. Here's a couple of pics to perhaps illustrate how I like things http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...8/100_1473.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...8/100_1459.jpg http://i1043.photobucket.com/albums/...8/100_1482.jpg Thanks! Jim Goodlad at Hurst Driveline would probably supply you with honest experience based information. 7six0-8five9-6six35. He owns a 69Z w/ TKO conversion.
They have been a real pleasure to deal with on my auto to T56 Mag conversion. Nice Nova! |
