Can you put Qa1's on a stock 67 camaro subframe with stock A arms or are their modifications required?

The QA-1's are larger in diameter than the shock insertion hole in the stock lower arms. The correct way to do it would be to remove your lower arms, cut the shock insertion hole larger in diameter, and then weld a nut on each side of the control arm. You will need to weld the nuts because once you've made the shock insertion hole bigger you will have intruded on the existing lower shock mount holes.

Just curious are their any other coil-overs that can be used without modifications, or are they all the same?

Why can't you drop the LCA, put the coil over in and bolt the lower t-bar to the top of the LCA?

I'm was under the impression he asking about the shock alone. He didn't mention coil over shock. If he is talking coil over shock set uo I couldn't answer that one.

Given that we're talking about a very critical suspension component here...I would hesitate to bolt a coil-over to the stock LCA. My concern would be the ability of that 40 year old piece of metal being able to handle the entire load being applied in a relatively small area. With the conventional spring setup, the load is distributed across a wider area of the LCA, in an area by the way, which was designed for that load.

Personally, I would go with an aftermarket LCA designed for coilovers...SPC, Speedtech, Ridetech, etc.

Good point. I'm at a crossroads myself. One mfr said to use the stock lca. Anyway, if we're talking about the regular shock, I had the same large diameter issue with a set of DA Varishocks. I mounted them on top of the lca so I wouldn't have to modify the lower arm. However I found the body large enough that I needed to enlarge to frame pocket the shock goes up into. On compression, it would have hit. Loved my die grinder.

*I was previously incorrect about our coilovers being a match. We do not recommend running a coil over with the stock arm due to the strength of lower shock mount and how short of stroke would be required.

We do have our new smooth body shocks for the guys that will be running just a stock or performance spring upgrade. The smooth body still has the performance valving in a mono tube shock. But the exterior is designed to fit through the stock shock mounting hole.
