New gauges
 

I am going to upgrade my speedo and tach in my 68 Camaro to the auto meter ultraII 5" gauges but was wondering what I am going to do about turn signal indicators. Anybody have any suggestions?

I've been contemplating the same, small LED indicators of some sort is what I'm leaning towards.

Can't do much with the Autometer gauges. I have drilled holes in one 67 plastic dash gauge assembly, and it didn't look good. So, I had new vintage make me a custom setup. I have all the warning lights now, turn signals, etc.
I bought the 3-in-1 kit, but it is called the 68 series. The cost for that kit is $629.95 in their store. Gives you 6 gauges in the dash. http://www.newvintageusa.com/1968.html

Mine was custom, but it looks similar to their prototype setup on the 68 series. If you want something different, then get a custom kit. Different colors, etc. That is your best option for gauges.

If you decide to buy LED's be sure they are eye safe. Most are not eye safe. A friend of mine works at AFRL for USAF, and they had problems with LED's causing glare.

Ijust remembered my parking brake indicator is on my existing gauges too, CRAP! I like your vintage gauges Jeff but I have ben eyeing the UltraLiteII gauges for a couple years now and have to keep brainstorming. Hopefully I can come up witha solution and I don't want to drill into a Carbon Fiber gauge bezel for turn signal lights. You don't have a lot of options on the 68 and I want too keep my other gauges seperate from my tach and speedo.:willy:

New Vintage can design the gauge the way you want. The problem with Autometer is that you can't put the LED in the gauge. You void the warranty as soon as you take apart the gauge. You don't know where to put drill the holes, because it might cause problems with other parts. Ironworks has modified their gauges, but I rather pay a gauge company to make one that works. That is the best spot for the LED or turn signals is in the gauge. So you like the Autometer Ultra Lite 2 design, so call up New Vintage and they probably can make something similar to that design. I would change it to way I wanted the gauge. Cost a bit more, but in the end you have better design. Lot of options are available. http://www.newvintageusa.com/custom-sets.html

Ok, New Vintage made a prototype setup. That is what I wanted, and here is the thread. https://lateral-g.net/forums/show...t=24888&page=3 So, I talked to Mark, and we made a custom setup for my car. Well, if you go custom then you can make additional changes.

Basically, if you do the custom setup. The cost is a bit more, but you can design the gauge the way you want. I have total of 9 gauges, but 3 are custom made for center dash section. A custom bezel setup could be made, but it will be costly. There is the sun factor, that people tend to forget. So, the factory bezel, well, is rather unique. If you want more gauges, then you can rework the center dash. That is what we did on my 67 Camaro. So lot of options available.

Center dash has lot of possibilities, so just think of what you want in that center dash. I prefer people coming up with their own design. Easy to copy, but it is your car, so build it the way you want it.
