Gun Drilling

Anybody on the forum do gun drilling, know somebody, connections to companies who do, etc, etc? I've got a 24" long, 1" diameter shaft in need of a 7/16" hole drilled the length of the shaft. I've found a few companies but it "seems" as though my 1 piece is too small time. Thanks for any help/suggestions.

Check with a local gunsmith? Custom barrel manufacturer?

Will,

I got a guy in san diego that made me a custom steering shaft with splines. He might be able to do something for you. He is a smaller shop but really helped me out on my one off project.

Company name is Moore Performance. His name is robert moore.

Hey Bryce,
Given Sieg's recommendation I'm checking with a couple local gunsmiths (local to the car anyway), but do you have any contact info for him? I want to get that 15-5 stainless bar drilled we discussed. Can't find it in tube but if I can get it drilled I'm all good. Thanks!

Ask for Frank.

It might be a ways away, but Wild West Guns here in Las Vegas does that kind of thing. Great people to work with.

Ask for Britney and tell her Curtis sent you.

Good luck

At this point, most places are a ways away but if I can get it I'm not afraid to have it shipped. Thanks for the recommendations, I'll connect with both.

Will,

With the 15-5 I suggest a H-900 heat treat. If you are going to gun drill it, I would machine it within .020" first then heat treat it. Then final machine and polish.

The 15-5 H-900 is not much fun to machine but can been done. Thats why I suggest doing most of the machining in the annealed condition.

I cannot get his info at work. But google moore performance in san diego. I think this is his phone number (619) 296-9180.

I don't know who Britney is Curtis, but her price is very good; a ways away or not that is probably where I'll be going.

They build some nice equipment too...

When you say to machine it within .020" first, then heat treat, are you suggesting to cut it over or under the 24" length I need. The only other machining then is drilling and tapping. The diameter of the drilled hole is not as important as making sure the threads are dead on. So, cut to length (over by .020"?), heat treat to H-900, throw it on a lathe and turn it to 24", then have the hole drilled and tapped? Thanks Bryce.
