Best Fuel Resistant Silicone Sealer??
Hey guys,
Im getting ready to finish up my EFI fuel tank conversion and will be needing to seal the top portion of the tank. What is the best silicone sealer to use that is completely fuel resistant. I want to make sure I dont get any vapors or liquid fuel leaking out. Any info is greatly appreciated. This is what Im sealing; http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/j...o/gastank5.jpg |
Brian,
The proper way is to weld it completely and then pressure check it. Relying on sealers for this application to me is not the way to go. JMO Good luck! |
Unfortunately if I weld it shut I won'tt be able to remove the pump when it goes out. I saw them do It this way in PHR but they were sealing It then using fasteners around the edge to keep it tight and in place

If you're just using it to seal two pieces that already have a tight fit, Brett at Fab53 clued me into "high temp thread sealant." we used it on my gas tank where the cork gasket used to be on the fuel level sending unit. Stuff works great.

Sorry Brian, missed the application. Thought you had access another way. You will still need some sort of mechanical fasteners. Try searching the permatex or henkel websites. They have compatibility charts to work from.

MIL 8802-B1/2. it is aircraft fuel tank sealant and it used for making wet cells in aluminum wing construction.

I'd make a gasket for it due to servicability. The sender application should have a gasket available? The pump will likely break when you're 300 miles from home, how do you plan to reseal it in that situation?
