69 Camaro questions ?

http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d1...s/DSC03524.jpg My name is mike I run ny5thgen.com a local camaro club here inthe tri state area , Freddy Sunoco twist is a buddy of mine and his car has inspired me to maybe do mine This is my 69 Camaro it has a nice crate motor (360 hp) a Holley 650 turbo 350 trans 342 posi rear (79z28) hooker super comps I was thnking about selling it and buying a grand national for something more family friendly I have two little guys etc.... But I think I might go the other route My question is does it pay to just add an aftermarket fuel injection set up and do my suspension or should I go with a full ls swap , was thinking of a 5.3 because my car is a original 327 car or an lq9 affordability is a huge issue want something turn key and reliable Any suggestions for motors ? Also can I add a FI fuel tank before I go with an ls ? Alot of this project will be piece meal due to family finances so I'm trying to get as much info as I can before I start getting parts Love the forum any help will be appreciated Thanks Mike |

Yeah the budget is an issue , going to do some work to the car that I've been putting off as I built my 5thgen
New shocks kick down cable tune the Holley and adjust the brakes get her drivable for the summer Going to start piling up parts for an ls swap the forums been a help already Car needs a new gas tank but I have to hold off because i can't use the FI fuel tank with my carbs , |
You can do the FI tank but will need a good regulator to get fuel pressure down to friendly 5-7 psi for a carb. For what you would spend to fuel inject your current setup you can buy an lq4 with money left over or with the OD trans for about the same amount. I think you'd be way ahead of the game. Then sell your motor/trans to offset the cost. I'm kind of biased because I put LS motors in every first gen i do now. I can't ever go back. going 5.3 gets the price down even more. There are, as im sure you know, more associated costs for doing the swap other than the tank. Mounts, headers, oil pan, modified harness, computer tune, PS lines, coolant lines and/or new rad/fan setup, driveshaft shortened if going OD, intake/acc brackets if using a truck motor, fuel lines/regulator, etc. I like buying LS1 f-bodies since you can use so much off them on the swap. Then I part out what im not using. It is time consuming but usually you make out well on the money side. I think you rear gears would be perfect with auto OD, as thats what I usually run with an auto. If you race the car a lot you may want to go 3.73. What type suspension do you have planned?
