67 Nova SS. Pro Touring. 398 + Twin 72's. 1000rwhp plz.
Righto, first up i'm gunna copy what's been done from another forum. Sorry about the boring **** to start with. It gets better... Sorry about the build changing directions a few times... That stuff happens. Stay with me :D
This build could not have happened if it weren't for mainly Jason @ Total Cost Involved. He's stayed with me for around a year now and has continued to help out exponentially without the need to! Talk about going above and beyond the job description. I really really recommend this guy/TCI if anyone is chasing hotrod or suspension parts. Also Mike @ AES. For taking over a bit of a sour deal and turning it into a great deal! Once the build is finished, i'll list everyone who's helped me out with what.. There's a heap! Can't thank everyone enough. Here's a walkaround. Yes it's an original 67 SS Coupe. Yes i'm cutting it up and making it how i want. "Current" plan is 1100rwhp LS1. T56. Tubular front and rear. Mod plated and legal. So far i've had my engineer with me on everything, and so far it's ok.. Also been in contact with Queensland Transport mod guys and my insurance company. I don't want to have a $$$$ build burn to the ground or get smashed up and be left with nothing. Yeah, so err i really didn't want to do this. Wanted to buy a car and change a few small things but as always i get carried away (my last "daily" had 484rwhp and was 2" off the ground..) My end goal is to drive this thing like i stole it. Rape it to (hopefully not) death. Originally i just planned to tidy up a few things, fix a few interior water leaks and make a little more power etc etc. Never happens the way you plan.. Here's what i started with. Driveline: 434ci SBC. Edit: Lol, this was in May 12... I'm no longer dealing with Fraser. I can recommend Mike though!
Sooo, plans change as ya all know... I now have an AES398 complete engine being built by Fraser and the crew @ AES Race Engines. Need a 91mm turbo. Goal - 1000rwhp. Should be easy. Hopefully i make the figure before i melt the insides of the T56. Few guys in AUS are making that power with stock Tuet6000 T56's like mine. See how it goes. Might end up with a Magnum. Consists of the following. Will be swapping out the edelbrock manifold for the holley hi-ram efi intake though. It's smoother, looks nicer. Everything is also being painted black. Like, everything. No chrome, no silver. Just black. Also found a video of the missus driving with the 434/auto.. Wasn't even scared.... Lol
I'm in Aus. So driving a LHD vehicle for the first time is kind of a big deal for the wife. That and she's only used to driving hotted up datsuns. |

A clutch pedal and 6 forward gears is the only way to build a pro touring monster. http://imageshack.us/a/img337/1139/2...9134949223.jpg Definately not puttin that dash or wiring mess back in. AAW classic update kit, LS1 conversion harness and dakota digital dash is the new plan. http://imageshack.us/a/img824/8646/2...2134949223.jpg Now that it's almost rolling, going down to the fabricator. New tunnel, connect the front clip to the tranny crossmember so it's one whole new chassis, plate behind the rear seat, but of a minitub/clearance, new boot floor with Aeromotive fuel cell dropped through the boot and a cage for it hanging down below the car. Maybe a back half cage too, with removable harness bar. Then get it back home, remove everything, sandblast and 2-pac with a good epoxy/rustproof base. And put it back together. Going to buy a dakota digital dash as well. By the time i get a speed sensor box, new gauges for temp/oil pressure/everything. It's up around $1000. New dash is $895 with the optional temp outputs for engine oil temp, gearbox oil temp and diff oil temp. See the diff cover, there's two grub screws right, they are usually for bracing the caps. But i don't need them as the big plate in between does a good job so i'm turning that into a diff cooler/hold more oil and running a cooler up under the boot next to the fuel cell. Will probably run a cooler for the T56 up there as well. |
August 2012.

I guess at least it's done properly if callies took their time. It's a Magnum too, not a compstar or a dragonslayer. So if i ever want to go blown... I'll have no issues. http://www.filedump.net/dumped/photo41346299419.jpg http://www.filedump.net/dumped/photo51346299419.jpg More expensive parts. http://www.filedump.net/dumped/photo61348267908.jpg http://www.filedump.net/dumped/photo71348267908.jpg http://www.filedump.net/dumped/photo81348267908.jpg This thing just keeps costing me money. Hah. Now using a belt drive fuel pump. Anything electric with enough oomph to give me 1200rwhp worth of fuel is gunna get mighty hot and cook the fuel within 45 mins of constant driving. I wanna drive 8 hours to brisbane. Soo aeromotive belt drive setup it is. Going to be fun trying to fit it in with AC/PS & Alt. |
The motor "should" be done by christmas. See what happens...
Just crappy ls with iron heads... Haha http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c5...r000/photo.jpg Dakota Dash turned up, it's pretty damn nice! Can't really do much more till i get a wiring harness, some brake parts or an engine... As soon as the diff rebuild kit gets here, the car will be off to the fabricator for some work. Man i'm so broke haha. Just did a big order of stuff to box in with the engine. Surefit Vintage AC DSE 7sp Hidden wiper motor and accessories AAW Classic Update complete vehicle harness PSI Conversions LS1/T56 harness and mafless tuned ECU Mcleod twin disc 1500hp clutch/flywheel & Tick master cylinder Art Morrison 4pt chromoly cage with rear seat bars & harness bar Diff will be back to me tomorrow assembled and ready to throw underneath. Should have some rolling photos on the weekend Booked in to fatz fabrication on 21st Jan. Also found out i need dust seals in my wilwood brakes, so a good friend/vendor who's helped me out this whole build is sending me over some dynapro 4pot calipers & pads which come with dust seals. Running manual brakes too. Looked at dual VH44's. No room. Looked at hydraboost, it was around $500 for the setup to run off my powersteering. But i wasn't planning on having belt driven ps pump. Looking at an electric MR2 unit. Also inquired about an electric master cylinder from ABS power brake but it was $1000. Engineer said with my calipers etc, manual brakes will be fine if i run a 13/16 or 7/8 bore master cylinder. Turbonetics have replied to my/TCI's email, Midframe 66mm satin finish - Rediculously good prices. Not bad i think... Just gotta run some t-netics stickers somewhere i guess. :D Bam. Intake powdercoated. Thanks to Mike @ AES. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c5...ps9ce3ed3c.jpg |
Can get the 72mm inducer for the same price in the Midframe... I should go that right? More room to move, less boost required, keep dem heads down..
Intake worked over, engine nearly done. Waiting on the roadrace oil pan from milidon. First one was bent. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c5...s061b52e7.jpeg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c5...pscc4f8e6b.jpg http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c5...sc35c033f.jpeg Pretty sure i'm set on twin 72's instead of the 66's. I'd rather have room to move. And being BB on a 398 i don't think i'm going to have too much issues spooling them. Better to make the power on lower boost.. Fuel cell turned up. 20gal Aeroflow. 2x 8an feeds. 2x returns/rollover. 0-90 sender unit. http://i25.photobucket.com/albums/c5...psa993fab1.jpg Today i just bit the bullet and ordered 2x 72mm Turbonetics Mid Frame ball bearing turbos. Also got 2x 45mm wastegates. Thanks to Jason @ TCI for setting it all up for me!!! Spoke to mike @ aes and my vintage ac, roll cage, clutch and a few other pieces have turned up. He is making a big box/pallet for it all. |
This post is from Jason @ TCI.
We just received your Turbonetics goodies. These will be mailed to Automotive Engine Specialties along with some Wilwood goodies shortly. http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_6328.jpg http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_6327.jpg http://i981.photobucket.com/albums/a...s/IMG_6326.jpg |
