My Easter weekend
I got my latest water bill last Thursday and noticed it was three times the normal amount, higher than the summer peak when we are watering and the boys are playing with the hose...uh oh.
I finish out the work week and come Saturday me and my boys crawl under the house looking for the leak, nothing. Welllll dang it! I guess it must be the main from the meter....grabbed my shovel and started digging. Neighbors are coming by asking what happened and telling me I should rent a ditch witch, nah I got this, it's nice out and it'll be good for me. :lostmarbles: Mid day Saturday I get called into work, thank you! I was starting to feel older than I am. Worked until about 6:00 came home showered and went out to watch a buddies show. Sunday morning I head back out and start digging again, family wakes up and brings me some coffee and this time they're really helping. My wife is following behind getting all the loose stuff as ole John Henry steams ahead. Here's the funny part...my neighbor comes over and comments on how nice the ditch looks and what a good woman I have. At this point I'm about 50' from where I started and another 2' from being done, and no sign of any water. My oldest boy and I are talking with the neighbor about what else it might be, slight pause in the conversation and my son says " I wonder if leaving the back yard hose on for three days would do it? uhhh, come again? Yaaa, that'll do it. I put the tools away and cleaned up for dinner, I think I'll fill my ditch back in when I get home tonight. |
BUT HEY! At least you got a good work out?
:hairpullout: |
:lmao: Sorry, but who left the hose on? Same person that refills the ditch?
A friend of mine had his neighbors fill up their large in-ground swimming pool with his hose when he was out of town for the weekend........he got his bill which prompted a similar search. |
That's just funny as all hell!!!
So in a similar but equally dumb move.... I moved from Yarrow Point to the current house here in Bellevue. As one of the original 125 homes in YP - I was hooked up to the community well (which was on Rose Hill -- with a line running under the lake!) and we had NO meters. We paid an annual fee depending on water pressure -- $200 PER YEAR because I had 60 PSI. I have no idea what "water" costs... I use all I can waste. I move to Blahview for the acreage to build the "shed".... Mind you - it's 1.2 acres - with 24 zones of sprinkler system... I get bills of $1100 and $1500 per billing cycle... shrug and pay them. This goes on for 5 years. The city is working on the hydrants in the area - and of course I'm out talking to the boys and feeding them coffee etc.... and one of the guys asks me about the "stream" that runs down the hill on the corner (my lot is a corner lot) - this would be considered a drainage ditch except I had the landscaper make a nice "dry river bed" with rocks etc... and I tell the guy that water runs 24/7 including in the summer. Now they are going crazy because they're thinking it's their system that's leaking.... because they're telling me - no way should water be running in the ditch in August etc. Oh yeah.... it was my main. And no you don't get a credit on your bill for stupid. |
That is pretty funny...
Reminds me of my Dad.. He moved into a new subdivision that had the same tree in the front yard on all the Houses..Well he wanted to be different so he pulled that tree and planted a different tree.. Years later he was paying high water bills until we saw the lawn sinking out front...I had to replace the water main to the street because that tree broke the line...When ? Probably a few years before we noticed it..:ohsnap: No one else had a problem..:catfight: |
:lmao: That's hilarious Greg, even funnier you had it landscaped! Probably the nicest "leak" in the neighborhood.:lmao:
I won't say who left the hose on...I will say that it wasn't my boys and I had my favorite dinner last night.  Dan |
So your telling us you filled in the ditch:lol:
|
That is funny.
At least you got some good exercise. :headspin: |
