DSE brake booster question. No pedal
So I have got this car all together and last thing I am struggling with is having any kind of brake pedal.
69 Camaro Ls1 227-231-113 cam DSE brake booster Disc brakes all around. We have put all new brake lines around on the car. A proportioning valve for the rear brakes. We have bench bled, gravity bled, pressure bled and manually bled all the corneres 11 times now. We have NO air in the lines. Our issue is when we adjust the rod out. I had braking power, actually to much braking power. The car in neutral would not move. Had one hell of a drag on it. We backed off the rod a few turns. And right back to pedal to the floor. When the car is off I have a mildly firm pedal. As soon as I turn her over goes to the floor. We have used every hole on the pedal. Adjusted the rod from shortest to fully extended. Still nothing. No leaks in the lines. Anybody have any clues. Any suggestions. Please help. |
What master cylinder are you using and what brakes?

First, the rod between the pedal and booster. Remove the pin, hold pedal up against the pedal stop or brake light switch, adjust rod until pin slides in with no preload. Leave that alone.
Is the pushrod there between the master and booster? Nothing really holds it in on those boosters, it could have fallen out. Like above, what master are you using? |

Yeah, the rod between the booster and master is not adjustable, just wanted to be sure it was there. My first statement was in regards to the rod from the pedal to booster, that is how to adjust it.
Right stuff rear discs? Is that the setup using the mid 80s seville caliper? Sometimes they work, but most times they don't. I have never had any luck with them at all. I have heard of too thin a pad being shipped with those kits and that causing problems. Is your ebrake hooked up and adjusted properly? If you pinch off the rear hose(s) do you have a pedal then? |
I'm seriously not getting any pressure.
Car off... I have a harder pedal feel but goes to the floor. Car on... The pedal is soft and goes right to the floor. Take it out for a test drive at ... 5-10 mph it will slow down. 10< the brakes have no affect in the speed. Plug the master cylinder ( both holes) pedal is rock hard with car on and off. Plug just the front brakes I have a hard pedal but if I take it out for a ride the bitch doesn't stop. The rod between the master and booster isn't adjustable. The rod between the booster and pedal have been adjust 10 times on each of the three holes. I am so stumped and discouraged. |

With all that being said, the first thing I would do is look at the rubber boot on the booster where it comes through the firewall, it needs to be centered in the hole, if it's not you need to either slot the firewall mounting bracket holes more or open up the hole in the firewall. If it's not centered the booster piston gets pinched between the rubber boot and the firewall hole and will result in either a lazy return of the pedal or the brakes are locked like you said you had before you started adjusting the rod. Once you are certain that the boot is centered then adjust the rod like Donnie suggested. |
