road noise

Well the weather has finally been nice enough to get my car out. I had DSE minitubs put in over the winter and the road noise is horrible over 40 MPH. Other then the new tubs I didn't change anything. So I guess i'm wondering what my options are with helping the road noise?

dynamat the floor?

Spray sound deadening undercoat the wheelwell. Dynamat or similar on the interior side. I also installed a sound barrier of 3/8" commercial fiber carpet cushion in the back of my rear seats which made a noticeable difference.

........ Dynamat or get yourself a Prius.

If it was mine... I'd install louder mufflers.

Prius won't cut it. Thanks for the replys. You all confirmed what I was thinking on the dynamat but I wasn't sure if something else might work better.

Road noise needs to be blocked using a sound barrier not a vibration dampener. Dynamat Extreme is a dampener. It will help some but ultimately it will do very little to block road noise. They do have a product that is both dampener and barrier. That would be what you want. There are other options out there as well. Undercoating the wheel well on the outside will definitely help too. Sand and gravel hitting the wells creates a lot of noise and happens often.

What I've done on my Sierra and will do on my other cars is to lay down dampener pads/tiles, you only need to cover a percentage of the areas in question, followed by a decoupler layer which is typically closed cell foam, and finally top it off with mass loaded vinyl. It's important to cover the entire area with the foam and vinyl as any gaps are places noise will enter. My 01 Sierra is quieter than my sister's 05 Lexus RX330. I've covered the entire interior except the firewall and roof. Though I do have dampener tiles on the roof.

another option is to Raptor or bedliner the exterior side of the tubs.

I haven't driven mine yet, but I did the combination of Dynamat Extreme and then Dynaliner to cover both issues as WSSix explained...

Here are couple of 'in progress' pictures:
