probably will think I lost my mind
I have located a couple of 79-80 malibu's which are fairly common. Also located a 1974-or 75 chevelle Laguna. Only one close to my idea in pics of possible mods is the black and silver 73 in phr this month. He does not have the laguna nose though.
http://www.conceptcarz.com/view/phot...0,0/photo.aspx I have been watching the old nascar clips on speed and the lines of these look great with a low stance. Previously have seen where the huge wheel wells on these can run 10.5 rims in rear easily. Also came with 10.5 rear or 12 bolt depending on motor. The car I found has the nose like the one on this link. Picture in your head this car with solid paint and 18" I forged wheels. Am I losing my mind or what. And yes I know these are HEAVY! It would go on an extreme diet. Also an Ls1 will lighten it. Just thoughts. I know it would be the only pro touring style 74 I have seen anywhere other than a magazine. |

Hey, if the price is right, heavy is fine. Not everyone drives 2000lb 8,000 hp 4 second missles.

Nose on this car looks better. This is not pt but give you idea of body. Most were crushed and survivors are rare. No scraped knuckles under that HOOD!!!! mY 2000 Camaro was a nightmare to wrench on as far as space was concerned. |
I'll back you up on the old Nascar footage. These along with some of Petty's old Pontiacs look sweet in the full Nascar trim and I think that they would translate really well into PT form, and nobody around would have one. Are they full framed cars? Are there any suspension pieces out there for them?

I have to agree they look pretty cool ...........better then the new car.........

susp/ frame
yes its a full frame car/ and the rear suspension pieces are very similar between these and 78 up g-bodys. front suspension similar to 70's trans am / camaros. Not sure whats all interchangeable off the top of my head, but I am not afraid to fab it up. The interior replacements are almost non existant but my father in law does upholstery for a living.
his site is http://www.wlsheadliners.com/ Anyways, I agree with the nascar comment. The early 80's t-bird nascar appeals to me also in some sick way. |
I say go for it. They are still rather inexpensive for the S3 454 version also. PHR had an article not to long ago about building the not so common cars and a Malibu was one of them. Done right they can look badass in my opinion.

Not the exact of what I want but tasteful examples
And yes I know two have skinnes on front. Examples only, I love the I -forged wheels in 17 or 18" sizes. |
Either body style would look great, I have always really liked the four round taillights look on everything GM ever used it on, the late 60's Vettes, the 70-73 Camaros, the Chevelles, and these Laguna's all look sweet.
