welding axle tubes to housing 12 bolt

A friend of mine just got his 12 bolt back from being redone with new gears and bearings, no gear oil in the rear, just pre lube during set up. He asked me to weld the tubes in a couple places around the housing, just not sure if its going to hurt the diff bearings which are somewhat close to the area of heat. Are there any risks doing it on an assembed set up?

Thanks Rich

Im no expert. But the ones I've seen done were just the bare housing and set up in a JIG

just watch your temps, don't over heat the housing and leave the fill plug out.

Thanks guys, Its obviously not the best way to approach this, but more often then not these guys drive down to a Mienike, throw the car on a lift do a crummy job of prepping the surfaces and burn away with standard steel MIG wire(not going to bond well with a cast housing).

I think I can control the heat in my shop, use a NI-rod 44 or 99 and TIG it in.

Thanks again- Rich
