This may be a thread hijack (and pm me if it is), but what is the story on Ford wanting to use only Motorcraft oil in the power stokes? I was told that the injectors are "oil fired" or something like that and only the Motorcraft oil is non foaming, or something like that. Any info on the truth to that?

The only logical reason I can see is that Ford must have their hands in it. Most manufacturers do this hoping to trick consumers into getting service done only at the dealerships. Rest assured that you can use any lubricant that meets the specs for that particular application without warranty issues. If you're talking about the 6.0's, I don't think there's much truth to that. The injectors do run off the oil (hydro-electric), that's true. I own an 03 F-250 with the Powerstroke and joined a powerstroke forum awhile ago. Most everyone on that site recommends a good quality diesel spec synthetic and oil changes every 5000. Injectors on that thing are around $250 each for remanufactured units, so good oil is a small price to pay for that extra piece of mind. I use Rotella T-6, but I'm positive Amsoil has an excellent product for this purpose. Also, check out a product called Archoil AR-9100, it's supposed to help with the stiction issues these trucks have.

If you're talking about the brand new Powerstroke, injector design has changed and I'm fairly certain it's now a common rail system

How often do you change the oil with the Rotella? That's a popular oil here in IA also.

I go 5 months/5000 miles on mine.

Have you ever considered giving this a try? http://www.amsoil.com/shopres/products/270px/AME.jpg Then match it up with an AMSOIL Ea Filter and you have superior protection and you only need to change your oil 50,000 miles, 600 hours or once a year. I'm not sure if you have the 7.3 or the 6.0 to show you the proper filter. Yearly it could cost less also!

I was referring to the ford bulletin that claimed that their oil was superior and that all others cause injector failure. I've been running Rotella and changing it around every 8-10k and it now has 160k on it.

On the Amsoil stuff, I have several other work trucks (like 15 or so) and most of them are diesels as well. What is the dollar value and difference of your stuff over the Rotella?
