"Turn Stop" on a Ford steering rack
Have any of you dealt with adding a 'turn stop' to your steering rack, particularly one of the aftermarket suspension setups with a Ford rack? On our first test drive a couple of weeks ago, we noticed that at close to full lock, the inside of the front wheel is touching the lower control arm. So I want to limit the amount of turn by limiting the steering rack travel.
I think I can add something under the boot at the end of the rack, but I haven't done this before so am looking for advice. I did some searching here, but didn't find anything that pointed me in the right direction. Suggestions, particularly any pictures, would really help! Thanx! |

Perfect, that's exactly what I needed! I love these forums.

I tried to find a good picture. |
Local dealer couldn't get info on 2 of these, and the other 3 are low availability. None are local, but I can get a couple next week it sounds like. Maybe we'll see if we can craft our own alternate solution this weekend...
I'll see if I can get a picture or some measurements on the wheel/tire. Eric is working on the alignment this week, so it's in a little flux right now. |
I thought some might like to see the solution which we used for this... We ordered these pieces:

On my car, we left the original stop in place on the driver's side and added the above new stop. On the passenger side, we removed the original stop and replaced it with the new one. The steering stops just about perfectly now! Here is a picture of the 2 stops installed: http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...pse18d33c8.jpg |
