Going to sell a SBC, how much to charge??

Hello,

I have 350 ci small block that I want to sell so I can get an LS3 for my Nova, it has roughly 500 miles on it, spec's below:

Chassis dyno tuned to 260.6 RWHP and 321.7 ft-lbs of torque, when considering a 15-20% drivetrian loss the engine numbers would be roughly 299-312 HP and 369-385 ft-lbs of torque.

Block: Cast iron with 2-bolt main caps
Crankshaft: Forged Steel
Connecting Rods: Powdered Metal Steel
Pistons: High-silicon aluminum with offset pins
Camshaft Type: Steel hydraulic roller
Cylinder Heads: Aluminum, 58cc chambers (GM casting No. 10088113, the castings are in stock condition, they have not been ported or polished)
Valve Size: 1.94 Intake/1.50 Exhaust
Compression Ratio: 10 to 1
Rocker Arms: Aluminum Roller (Crane Cam's Gold Race)
Rocker Arm Ratio: 1.6 to 1

Also includes: Weiand Stealth intake, Weiand Long water Pump, Mighty Demon 650 CFM carb., MSD 6-AL ignition box, MSD Blaster 2 Coil, MSD Pro-Billet Distributor, MSD 8.5mm Plug Wires, K&N Round Ribbed Air Cleaner, Jeg's Dual Spring Throttle Linkage, East Coast Single Wire Alternator, GM Starter and ARP SBC Bolt Kit.

Thanks in advance for your time and advice.

Happy Fathers Day!

Since this is essentially a ZZ4 (~ $5,300.00) which includes some upcharge components like the Mighty Demon 650 CFM carb., MSD ignition pieces, Crane Cams roller rocker arms, K & N air cleaner, East Coast alternator and ARP SBC bolt kit I am inclined to ask for $3,000. Thoughts??

It's a tough call as GM is on to its 2nd complete redesign sense the last SBC left the plant. Yes it sounds like a nice motor with some money in it for sure just hard to put a price on it. 3k sounds fair but ask me if I would pay that and I'd say no. For 3k I would start with a nice LS motor and go up from there.

Of coarse just my opinion so others may see it different. GLSW

Is it still running and driving in a car? It is hard to sell a motor on a stand if it cannot be started. Even if it is on a run stand, it is still somewhat of a guess for the new owner.

If the motor is still in a driver and you can take them for a test ride, you can get top dollar because the buyer knows exactly what to expect. You will also need receipts and documentation that it is what you say. Even running in a car I think you will be lucky to get $1500 for it. Everyone wants an LS these days.

If you are not in a hurry to sell it, you can always start high and work your way down until someone bites.

Good Luck

Agree with you guys -- on the LS motors -- but that's in this forum.... none of the hot rodders I know wants an LS motor... they're still stuck in SBC land.

Having said that -- brand new motors are a dime a dozen these days --- so I wouldn't expect much. It's not like it's some bad azz trick aluminum headed Dart little M based 406 / 427 -- or that line... it's just a nice little small block. Everyone has one. Not dissing it mind you -- just saying what I feel is the market for a motor.

Similar Set Up

I was offered a similar set up for around 1800 but decided to go LS instead.

Just start high and work ur way down - advertise everywhere.

He's right. Ask some big brains at GM Performance Parts (I have), and the'll tell you that the good ol' small block Chevy still outsells LS stuff 10:1.

..and I agree about the commonality of the engine weighing down the value.

Start at $3K take what you can get. Good luck.
