Auburn posi pinion shaft question
I have a auburn posi that has a pinion shaft with scratches/knurl chunk dug out of it. Any ideas what would cause this? The posi was previous in a truck that saw hard auto-x time. I'm thinking about rebuilding it... Any help would be great.

the actual pinion shaft or are you thinking of the spider gear cross shaft? pictures?

That's what I figured. How do the spider gears look? The shaft register look the same? How was the fluid and did you see any metal chunks. Looks like something came apart and was circulated. Made its way between the spider gear and the shaft.

If the fluid looked good and the spider gears are ok it may have been from a failure in the past.
|
Fluid looked good. No metal chunks in the fluid. I assume it should be good to rebuild.
|
yes, just be sure to inspect the spider gears for galling if you are going to use the auburn. All that will swap out with a new differential.

Will do. Thanks
