I haven't seen any of our Chevelle owning members logged on in a while. When one of those guys see your post, they'll chime in. They're a very helpful group of guys.

I now own a car more similar to your's...a 67 El Camino. I bought 18 and 20in Torq Thrust IIs for it. I ordered them with 4.5in BS front and 6in BS on rear, just in case. There are new springs in the rear, but you never know when suspension could bottom out under load. I'm not above working that Elky under hard times...LOL. Hope this helps. The Torq Thrust are 18x8 and 20x10s. Also, it doesn't hurt to overcompensate maybe a 1/4 to a1/2 inch when it comes to BS. If you go over, you can always correct with a simple and inexpensive 1/4in to 1/2in spacer. On the other hand, if you undercompensate, you may as well plan on selling those puppies and starting all over. Take care. Jesse |
66-67 is tighter in the wheelwells than a 68-72, but if you get the backspacing right on you can fit 9.5" wide up front and 10" wide out back. It will take approximately 5.5-5.75" backspace up front and about 5.75-6.0" backspacing in back, but it'll be quite tight.
I put 17 x 9.5 wheels with 5.5 backspacing on the back of a friend's 66 and with 285/40 tires (26" overall height) they will barely rub the inner fender if you really flex the rear end (i.e. angled driveway entrance.) I did not roll the lips of the fenders as his car has an immaculate paint job and I didn't want to risk damaging it. Up front I put 17 x 8 with 4.75 backspace and 255/45 tires and there are no issues. Another friend just put 17 x 9.5 x 5.5 with 275/40's on the front of his 66 and while it's close in a couple spots and he had to take the bolts out of the inner fender out near the tire it doesn't rub. |
Sweet deal! After posting reply yesterday I noticed on the box my Torq Thrusts came in, the BS on the front is actually 4.75, not 4.5. I ordered 4.5, but they sent 4.75 for some reason. Regardless, they work great!
Take care Jesse |
thanks guys I'm feeling a little better about this having all this information
