6L80E with Paddle Shift - Success

We've been involved with about two dozen successful 6L80E swaps that include our ShrifterSix™ paddle shifter. Here's a really interesting and important one because the owner is sending a good bit of power through the transmission and runs slicks to harness that power.
Of course with out manual shifting, the 6L just wants to upshift into high gear as soon as possible. ...and that helps explain why someone might want a paddle shifter. Regardless of how smart a transmission controller might be, there are times when you -- the driver are smarter than the computer. You might choose to hold a gear or short shift.

Steve, how much power can your 6L80s handle. I am looking for a hi HP trans (700hp BBC) but with smooth shifts. Is that possible?

A couple of things. First the 6L's can only be used behind LS engines and ECM's at this time. Emulators are in the works for use with old school apps, but talk is cheap. :-)

As for power, the A6 ZL1 Camaro has 580 HP flywheel with limited traction, and there are a few sharp racers running 700+HP with traction. With the 6L, the tune is as important as the hard parts. Don't add power unless you are working with a tuner who understands 6L's.

As you can see, this particular car is all about drag racing -- including spray and sticky tires. The plan here is to incrementally add power and work the 6L tune along the way.

It's a real world validation project. If it works here, the knowledge can be easily applied to a pro-touring car with short sidewall, limited traction tires.

Nice! It's interesting how complex the transmissions are getting with the PCM control.

Thanks guys. We've done quite a few of these, but all have been with stock or mostly stock engines. We have a great opportunity here to step things up and blow things up, so you don't need to.
