Sway Bar Motion

Hey guys, how does a front sway bar move when driving a car during an auto cross. Does the sway bar move up and down or just in one direction?

Thanks,

It moves with the lower control arms that it's attached to.

I like to think of it as a canoe paddle/ore. As one is in force down the other side would have equal or less pressure down. So a rotational opposing force. Does that make sense?
Should not have fore or aft movement...geezz, I think I need a boat.
