Not 100% sure if this the correct section, but here goes.

As you can see some of the CAP buttons are discolored/corroded, as well inside the CAP the terminals are corroded with a small amount of build up, and some of the cap buttons are very clean copper.

I'm running a MSD 6AL, blaster ss coil, MSD distributor locked and controlled by the FAST 2.0 system. My timing is set at 36 deg, and i have a phasable rotor.

Very little run time on this set up, maybe 3-400 miles.

The spark plugs are not burnt, and appear clean.

Is there a issue here, and what could cause this?

Also the car is garaged and does not come out if it is raining/wet... also seems to be the same terminals that corroded on the last distributor...

From the answers I have been getting everyone seems to say moisture.. So guess I will drill some holes in the cap, and spray it..

I recommend using dielectric grease on the terminals when installing the wires. I also use dielectric grease on the spark plugs.

Inside is normal but I find the outside interesting. Are they cylinders #4,#6 and 2? I'd like to see the cap side of the wires with the boots off.


I'd recommend checking the plug wire resistance on the affected cylinders. What brand are they? Yep, dielectric grease will keep the resistance down.


The cap should already be vented.

Looks to me like a poor connection between the plugwire and the cap on the corroded terminals. I see very little evidence of the terminal scraping the corrosion when you pulled the wire loose.

In any case, the wires from those terminals are toast (they'll be corroded too). Frankly, I'd replace the whole set. When you put the new wires onto the new cap (and plugs), they should snap on tightly, with a "click." Put dielectric silicone in the wire terminals (Cap side and plug side) to keep moisture out.

Do get another brass cap (like the one you have, the terminals are brass), and a good set of wires.

Thanks for the response. Im going to order a new set of the 8.5 mm msd wires today, and probably just go ahead and order the FAST dual sync dist, unless there are any better suggestions (and use the grease on the new ones).

Do you put Anti-seize on your plug threads? STOP using it if you do! Looks like a couple of plugs have grounding problems.
