late 2nd gen floors the same?
 

Looking at Wedge Engineering's website, they only list having seat brackets for Camaros. Are the floors the same between the Camaros and Firebirds through the years? If so, is there any other reason the brackets might not work for me in my TA?

Not sure exactly what years you are talking about but the second gen camaros had a change around 74 or so. Can't say that the firebirds are the same.

I believe it's 73 that the floors were changed. I'm just not certain if the floors were the same between the two makes for the same year. Meaning, will seat brackets designed to fit a 79 camaro work in a 79 TA?

75 was the change over in the camaro due to the catalytic converter, not sure about the firebird. I don't have any late 2nd gen cars to measure but seems like someone with one should be able to measure theirs for you.

I am however having a hard time swallowing the $400 price tag for two sliding brackets. They look nice but $400 is $400. I got the tracks for a mustang with the seats. I'm going to see what I can do to make them work in the car. I did some measuring and mocking up today. The tracks will work but I'll have to make new mounts. I'm confident I can do it. I've got people that can weld everything up for me. It's just going to be weird bends etc. If not, no big deal.

We (well, Eric) made a set for my car, a 71. I wanted the seats as low as possible, so he laid them flat on the floor for as much as he could. I cannot remember if it was the front or the back (he can probably tell you), but we did use about a 1" round stock and drilled a hole through it to provide the support for that end so that the rest could lay flat.

The Wedge brackets will locate the seat at least an inch to inch and a half above the floor. If you are tall, this may be a problem. I had them in my first second gen, and always thought the seat (a Sparco) was too high.

The countersunk holes are where the sliders were attached, and the other holes are to mount to the original floor attachment points.

Hope that helps, again I realize it's for an earlier car, but you can probably do something like this over the later humps.

Thanks Bryan. The rear holes are basically the same to one another but then the front two are different from each other and the rears. I'll have my seat tracks sitting almost on the floor boards and then just have the brackets go down to the other bolt holes. The seat will sit higher than stock a little bit but it shouldn't be a problem for me.

Trey, what seats did you end up with?

I'm keeping my Recaros' for now, till the rears tub and new tires get on. But i used the wedge brackets, yeah, pricey but what ya gonna do. I didn't have time to make them so i just paid the man....I'll probably end up getting newer/new recaro''s when the time comes.....

Well, I found some Mustang Recaros or so I thought. I should have done more research but the seats I got aren't the 79-83 Recaros that came in Mustangs. I think they are Recaros but can't find anything on them that says so. I haven't disassembled them either so maybe a stamping is buried. If anyone know what they are, I'd greatly appreciate the help in identifying the seats.

Regardless, I like the design, they are comfortable and supportive, and fit in the car. They also have that old school vibe that I wanted with the square head rests. No netting but that's ok. Got them shipped in from Indiana for under $400 and they don't need to be rebuilt right away. I'm happy.
