Cost of Powder Coating door handles
It turns out my brushed aluminum door handles were NOT clear coated by the manufacturer. Every time I open the door with my ring on it leaves a scratch in them.
I just got a quote to remove the door handles, brush them with scotchbrite, powder coat in clear and reinstall. $425 labor plus $2.86 for one table spoon of powder coat material.... That's an expensive fix for the fact that they were not coated by the manufacturer in the first place. I wish I had thought to test that before they were installed. I just assumed they had a protective coating of some sort. You know what they say about assuming... If you are planning to use aluminum door handles, please check to make sure they have a protective coating before you install them. It will be a lot less expensive to fix than mine will be. |

Either that, or contact the manufacturer and see if they will exchange them since they didn't clear coat them (assuming they were supposed to). |
I agree with 67Rally, not a big deal to remove door panels and remove the door handles and take them to your local powdercoater. Will be MUCH cheaper then what you have been quoted.
