Cost of Powder Coating door handles

It turns out my brushed aluminum door handles were NOT clear coated by the manufacturer. Every time I open the door with my ring on it leaves a scratch in them.

I just got a quote to remove the door handles, brush them with scotchbrite, powder coat in clear and reinstall.

$425 labor plus $2.86 for one table spoon of powder coat material....

That's an expensive fix for the fact that they were not coated by the manufacturer in the first place.

I wish I had thought to test that before they were installed. I just assumed they had a protective coating of some sort. You know what they say about assuming...

If you are planning to use aluminum door handles, please check to make sure they have a protective coating before you install them. It will be a lot less expensive to fix than mine will be.

Couldn't you just remove them and do the scotchbrite yourself and send them off for powdercoating? I think you'd save a ton of money.

Either that, or contact the manufacturer and see if they will exchange them since they didn't clear coat them (assuming they were supposed to).

I agree with 67Rally, not a big deal to remove door panels and remove the door handles and take them to your local powdercoater. Will be MUCH cheaper then what you have been quoted.

Stock door handles that I had powdercoated. Cost $50

They blasted then coated. Easy as pie :)
