OBD II scan tool for iPad etc?

I've seen quite a few at SEMA etc, but was wondering if any of you guys had experience using any of them....

For years I've had a program on an old laptop that worked for trouble codes and reading real time data. But now the laptop is pretty ancient and so is the program....its not working very well, crashes, doesn't seem to work with my newer cars etc

When I get a Check Engine Light, I'm trying to check the codes to see if its something I can fix ant home or need to take it in..

So its time to upgrade...looking for a home hobby type deal...not some expensive professional set up...

I got an app called torque for my smartphone, and a cheap obdII bluetooth setup and it's awesome. I have read codes reset them and it also gives you a few other options like 0-100 times and stuff like that. I have less than 15 bucks into the whole thing.

I use the torque app on my Android. I also bought one of the cheap OBDII plugs but it would not work with my 02 GMC Sierra. I found out it would not work. I had to buy one that was about 40.00. I found out some don't work with all applications. So make sure which ever one you get works for your application.

I use this BT link device (mainly because of it's PID update rate and encrypted BT connection) and have a few Android apps that interface with a Nexus 7 tablet that I picked up. I have used this combination in multiple vehicles... I just unplug one and plug it into another. The only thing with that is if you want the expanded PID reading for specific manufacturers (Ford, GM, etc) it will run about $10 for each. Not a deal breaker... but none the less.

The software is going to be device specific... but I think out of all the apps I use... they all interface with Apple products and are available in both the Android market and the Apple store.

The Dash Command app has the best accelerometer interface:

And I have found that "Torque" has unlimited 'themes' to display the monitored information. I find myself using the "Racing Meter" theme the most for just driving around and monitoring the available PIDs.

Tommy! Good to hear from you.

I use similar tech. Dash Commander has a ton of functionality and is pretty reasonably priced.

Slightly off topic, but I'm using the Torque app (pro version) with PLX bluetooth adapter, and I can't get Torque app to display the A/F ratio or fuel pressure. I got the plugins that pull the latest PID for GM.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks.
