Anyone Using A Moser Floater Rear End Set Up

I'm considering building a Moser floating rear end for my 68 camaro.

They sell all the pieces needed to convert a housing you already have or they sell a bare set up that you can throw your brackets on.

Has anyone use this set up. I read an article on where this was used with some modification but I would like to hear of some real world experience with this stuff.

The article I found:
http://www.superchevy.com/technical/...brake_install/

The housing:
http://www.moserengineering.com/circ...floater-9.html

Or is anyone running a Moser built rear?

I'm not sure how much support the brake companies offer for this floater set-up, the brackets for the radial mounts in the magazine article look custom to me. The width choices in your Moser link look too wide for a mini tubbed first gen. I just did a Baer floater on my wife's car and it's 55.35" wheel mount surface to wheel mount surface.

Ummm, YES! I'm running a Moser floater. I have about 5000 street miles with no issues at all. The only installation issue I had was that no one sold a weld on brake caliper mount so I had to fabricate my own.

Couple ?'s. Do you know what the bolt circle/pattern/bolt size is on the rotor adapter to hub attachment point. Also, would you happen to know the inside diameter of the snout/spindle? Trying to figure out if my fixture bar will slide through these Moser DBP snouts..... also seeing if my rotor adapters will fit these hubs.....
Thanks, Jay

Jay,
I do not know the rotor adaptor to hub bolt circle. I used the Moser supplied adaptor but I did have to find a source for the rotor it's self. The rotor mount is 8x7" but I needed a 1.1" thick x13" dia rotor for the C6 calipers so I had to have a pair of custom rotors made 1.1" thick to fit the 8x7" mount. Interestingly, the custom rotors were cheaper than standard Wilwood rotors. As for the snout ID I never measured it but a Ford 31 spline axle will fit through it if that helps.

PS. If anyone needs a source for custom rotors I purchased them from Coleman Racing.

Thanks for the reply. I actually called Moser and they informed me of the 1.381" i.d. for the snout and then I forgot to ask about the bolt circle on the rotor adapter to hub pattern :bang: but thanks again for the info. Your car is looking TUFF!

I just purchased a Moser floater. Just getting it installed & have not driven it yet. I do have an issue with the cap that covers the axel & mounts to the drive plate is hitting the center cap of my wheel. It has a socket head cap screw. I believe I can use a flat head & counter sink it to gain about 1/4" of clearance. If that does not work I will machine a new cap with added clearance.

Thanks Eric

Do you know what your WMS is? Did you use an off the shelf unit from the website or do you have them build it?

I custom ordered my axle from Moser with a 57" WMS dimension. It was the same price and in fact they require you to specify the WMS dimension when you order.

I'm running the Moser setup in my Mustang. The only advise I would give about ordering it, don't have them put a back brace on it. Mine showed up I put the brake brackets on it, painted it and put it in the car. When I drove it I could tell something was wrong, but on the trailer it went to the Motorstate Challenge. It was a spinning out machine, spun out like 3 times. Come to find out when they welded the back brace on, they warped the housing. 1.5 degrees toed out. Pulled it, sent it back, they did straighten it at no charge, but I did have to repaint it. Really cheesed m e off that they didn't check it first. Mines been OK since, also make sure you have them turn down the drive plates to chevy diameter or your wheels won't fit. I did fab a bracket so I could run Baer brakes with the emergency brake.
