Wheel finish options
I have a set of 17" True Forged wheels that are polished. They are on a car that gets driven far too much to keep up with that finish. Currently I have plasti dipped the spokes but still have the polished lips. I would like to keep a similar look to that but would like to make care and cleaning easier.
Is it possible to maybe do a brushed finish on the lips and then clearcoat? What about a clearcoat over the natural polished finish? Just trying to find something someone budget friendly but also that looks good and can be easier to clean. |
Yes, you could brush the finish and clear coat it. My centers are brushed and clear powdered. I have only seen 2 examples in person of a highly polished aluminum that has been clear coated and both looked okay, not as nice as the finish before coating....they seem to shine less...but are a breeze for cleaning.

Is the brushing option I would have to send the wheels out for? I can't seem to find any sort of write up online for how to do it. I have thought about selling the wheels and going to 18s to clear some Brembos but I haven't had any interest when they were listed.

Dead thread but need to bump it back up with the car coming back together. The upkeep is still going to be an issue and would like to figure out a way to solve it.
Does anyone know where I could send the wheels to be refinished? Most companies as far as I know don't want to work on a different brand wheels. I think I want to brush the lips and powdercoat the spokes. |

KNow exactly what you mean !! So I had my centers PC'd black, and the lips machined finished and then cleared and couldn't be happier with the results

just brush the lips. thats what i did. Best thing i ever did. Looks 10x better than polished or chrome and is easy to take care of.

Is there a process you followed or did you take it someplace? Did you clearcoat or anything afterwards? If not what is the cleaning and care process from brushed raw aluminum?
