FI for 454 Lsx?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this. I just purchased a 70 chevelle project and I'm thinking what to get to power her. I would love to get a 454 lsx and throw a supercharger on top for low end torque. I'm looking to build a daily driver my focus would be on low end power. I know when the 454 lsx first came out there were many issues when FI was applied. Is that still the case? Would the 454 Lsx crate engine be a safe purchase with the ultimate plan to apply a supercharger?

Thanks!

Issue is cyl wall thickness. With boosted motors, more wall thickness is better. You can make up the displacement much more easily with boost.

That isn't to say it cant be done, and depending on the power levels you want there are a lot of options.

If looking for torque, I'd say look at a LSX block (I went 427", but 454" fits your theme better), and run a positive displacement blower (Whipple, KB, Magnacharger, etc).

Biggest concern will be hood clearance I'd say. I know first gen Camaros with blowers sometimes have issues with stock height cowl hoods but it can be done (drop engine mounts, etc). Not sure what issues Chevelles have.

Sounds like a cool project!

Another concern that you may have is the compression ratio in a stock 454 LSX crate engine is 11:1, not real FI friendly
Also, the cam maybe not the best for a boosted application

I would recommend contacting one of the manufacturers that Will mentioned above (ie Kenne Bell, Whipple, Magnuson ) and see what their techs have to say about the compression level and cam specs
You may be ok, just by running a lower boost charge??

It would really suck to shell out $12k for a new crate engine, then have to open it up to change things
You could also look into one of the many quality engine builders to build exactly what you want??
Most offer some type of warranty too
If you buy the crate 454LSX and open it up, there goes your warranty anyways
